As you may know (or not) Spain hasnt advanced to a semifinal in a very long time. The people here think we gonna win against Italy but...
If Schwein means pig, what does Schweinsteiger mean? Is it something funny on German?![]()
Well, less funny than the village of Petting, Germany. Or ****ing, Austria.
"Steiger" has two meanings... it can come from climbing("steigen"), like for example in the name "Bergsteiger", which is a mountain climber ("Berg" = Mountain). Or it can come from the job designation of "Steiger", which is the foreworker/manager of a mine (Which is a very honorable title and requires you to not only study at a special university but also get selected by a mine)
The official story behind the name is not less funny. It comes from the town of "Schweinsteig", Bavaria, near the city of Rosenheim. In the historic dialect of this region, the town name would be translated pig sty and a "Schweinsteiger", thus be somebody born in the village pig sty, and thus be somebody born inside a pig sty.
No, that had not been my own name historic skills:

Hahaha, I get it. Not a name I would like to have.
One thing I dont know why:
German is a romance language, as well as Italian French or Spanish.
I dont know neither Italian nor French, but I can guess many words and if I see some text I may be able to grasp whats about.
But German is just uncomprehensible to me . (well, a few words have a resemblance, but just a few.)
Damn, I had always thought it was latin-derived  and never bothered to check. How wrong I was.
That explains why is so strange to me![]()
Well, see it like that, it is easier for a German to learn Spanish, than French or italian - you at least have a user-friendly grammar.
@ ts penguin Now that would be funny !!! they would get flung in to the water![]()
