My country is also divided into what we call provinces, due to what is stated in our constitution. I do not know that many countries are divided into different dependencies, but I think most are.

How strange the EU laws can get:

In the year 2000, three pairs of south american Rhea birds escaped from their pen in northern Germany and felt quickly at home in the German wilderness. Now there are up to 300 birds... and they are pretty hungry. But: While the EU does pay for damages by cranes or geese, they don't pay for the new birds, because there is no regulation for this species yet. They acknowledge the damage, but can't pay any money. :rofl:

We have a coat of arms for every small village, but not always a special flag. Most villages use the flag of the former feudal state, that ruled its territory before WW1.

(Interestingly, this tiny village has a pretty large article on Wikipedia... and I did not even edit it)
