I got 70 on an IQ test once. In the same day I took three; on one I got about 160, then 110, then 70. What's retarded...me or the test?

Contrary to common belief, IQ tests are not normatised. Any rating is only sensible within the confines of the particular test, and applied to the problems tested in that test. An intelligence test cannot be used as an objective means to determine a person's mental capabilities, it can only be used to test a person's aptness to solve certain problems, and comparing results between different tests is utterly meaningless.

Not quite. Originally, IQ was used to measure the mental abilities of children, and was calculated by figuring out a mental age for the test taker and dividing it by their real age, then multiplying by 100. (Figuring out the mental age involved comparing results and seeing what age group did the same on average as the person being scored). So a 10 year old that performed the same as the average 6 year old would have an IQ of 60.

Obviously, though, that has some problems when measuring adults, as the average 20 year old and the average 40 year old won't be that different in terms of mental abilities.

Nowadays IQ tends to be calculated by taking the results for a population and then scoring them so that the average score is 100 and the [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Standard_deviation"]standard deviation[/ame] is 15. An IQ of 60 would be within the dumbest 1% (65 being the upper boundary of the dumbest 1%), but I'd expect that most of the dumbest 1% is still functional.

That said, I'd be highly suspicious of any IQ test that said the average person in "my area" was within the dumbest 1% of humanity.

An idea for a sound-baced game:

A player is put in a randomly generated obstacle course. The screen is completely black, with no visual clues. You 'see' with sound.
The world is represented with synthesizer channels. Each object is represented with a trio of oscillators: sine, square, and sawtooth.

Volume represents distance, pan the orientation. Shape is shown as volumes of the three oscillators: Sawtooth length, square width, and sine height. The lower the sound the greater the dimension. Pitch would be the speed of the object relative to you.

The player still uses WASD and space to move around, because I can't figure out any other way to do it. He would have to find the checkpoints (a loud triangle) and move to the finish, in the continuously generated world. The farther in he goes, the larger the score.

I need to learn to code.
