Hello everyone, been a long time since I installed Orbiter, loved it and I'm really interested to try 2010 P1 out.

So I've been doing a fresh, full install of 2010 P1, and was going through the recommended add-ons list and it seems that many of these add-ons are already packaged with the initial install. From what I've seen there is some version of the sound add-on, Tranx, seems Outer Planets is also included.

So the question is that I've been able to find lists of recommended add-ons, lists of what add-ons work with 2010, but I'm not sure what add-ons are included in a full install and what versions. I just don't want to put older versions in, waste time installing things already there, or just mess things up.

Thank you :)

Orbiter (stock) comes with TransX. Orbiter sound, UCGO and the DG-IV can be gotten from here...http://orbiter.dansteph.com/index.php?disp=d

There are too many "must-haves"- Thorton's ISS, Daveid413's Shuttle Fleet/Aircraft Fleet/Skylab and now his Buran/Mir modifications. Just to name a few.

The version of TransX that is included with Orbiter is rather dated - there are newer versions available (search the forum - there are threads which will help you determine which exact version will work best for you.

Also, there is a list around here someplace about which add-ons are known to work with 2010P1.

I do seem to recall that the Outer Planets add-on causes problems - but it's not really needed anymore anyway.

Edit: I'm an idiot, I had a previous install folder still there with all the old add-ons I had. Sorry everyone.

Phantom you mentioned Outer Planets isn't needed anymore? Might as well ask about textures too, the recommended add-on page recommends two different Earth textures at different levels. Do you just choose one, or download both? Thanks again, sorry about that.

Tommy'd mentioned the outer planets. I'd installed it, but later removed it, I had been staying in LEO and had no need to visit every rock and ice ball on the outer rim.

As far as Earth textures, there are several available, but I got the level 10 from here -> http://downloadorbitersim.com/?page_id=93

(along with Mars, Phobos and Deimos)

I'm not at home, but it seems to me that those planets are now included. The textures might not be as good as the old OP add-on, but I seem to recall that OP over-wrote Satsat.dll or something - which caused problems with several other add-ons.

Agreed. There are too many "must have" add-ons. I suggest reading "must have" as "must see". I suggest testing all your new add-ons in a bogus/temp install of orbiter. If you like what you see, then, and only then, incorporate them into your working install.

It is easy to chase after each and every add-on out there. I do. I also save them in an archive for future testing or whatever. My main install isn't too cluttered. And I select my add-ons very very carefully.

I tend to classify my add-on collection in the following categories:

Add-in code and utilities
Backgrounds
MFD's
Original base installation
planets & moons
playbacks
Project apollo and amso
scenarios
scenery and bases
ships and stations
rockets and boosters
tutorials and misc documentation
screenshots

As a suggestion... Give a look at the Jonesoft (?) Generic Mod Enabler (do a google search, it should be the first thing to show up).

It is a great tool to quickly add and remove add-ons quickly. And not hard to learn to use either.
