That booster stage mesh is beautiful is it your own design, or based on an existing upperstage?

The stage was originally drawed by Fausto (for the early versions of the Jarvis rocket), and later reworked entirely by me. The engines meshes are by Vittorio (Robitaille_fan on OF). All the textures are mine, except for the engines.

Quasar Super Heavy Launch Vehicle 2.5

Hello, im new here and this is my first post. Imm somewhat into orbiter so I might probably be around here more often. Im a 20year old guy interested in spaceflight and astronomy.

My question.....

Maybe nothing adventurous of a addon. More like letting a autopilot do all the work but I just wanted to check this giant rocket out.

[ame="http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=4840"]Quasar Super Heavy Launch Vehicle 2.5[/ame]

There's a problem however. I load the scenario for the quasar 452.
Everything goes well in the beginning. At around mach 6 (just under 1700 Meter/sec) the 4 SRB's seperate and leaving the burning main tank.
It accelerates all up to 2.500meters per second.
At this time the amount of main propellant says to be "600k"
About 1/3rd of the fuel capacity.

But at this point the autopilot automatically seperates the main tank (while it still has one third of prop) to leave me with the second and final stage. Which does not only leave me with a to low amount of fuel. But I cant even hold the point of direction above the horizon.

This is a glitch in the autopilot or even in the whole design as I havent yet tried to quiklaunch the rocket. But theres obviously a little tweak or fix or copy paste files method to get it right.

Hope you guys can help me out.

Dont recall whether it does this or not, but check the addon doc to see what capacity on the main tank is. If its less than what main fuel is reading after SRB separation then Id imagine the 600k is whats left in the final orbit insertion stage. Ive never made a Multistage2 rocket, so I dont know exactly when it starts adding/creating/deleting fuel resources and stage masses. I wouldnt excpect the autopilot to be the issue, but Quasar 452 was part of the latest update, so a minor error in one of the AP's might have happened. If you want you can fiddle with the autopilot by looking under config/quasar for the guidance file, which contains a timeline for all launch events. Just make sure to back up the original file before editing though.

This isn't normal. The core stage has a burn time of over 340 seconds, and it burns until fuel depletion. Have you modified the guidance file? The more simple solution is: reinstall the package, and overwrite all the files.

P.S.: the boosters are LRB (liquid boosters), not SRB.

A very small update for the Quasar (along with the other FOI rockets) with slightly updated config files. The infamous duplicate folder was eliminated and in the documentation is present the link for the excellent D3D9/D3D11 guide, made by the FOI member Ripley.

The new payload, the Pegasus B test satellite, will be available after the live event of the 17 october on Orbiter Live Missions.

Uploaded the last update with a couple of corrections in the documentation and the Pegasus B Test Satellite, already seen in the last live broadcast on Orbiter Live Missions.

For some reason, when I try to launch the 440 and 452, the game crashes at T-28 or sometimes T-29 seconds in the countdown. I'm running Orbiter 100830, and have all the other required mods. However, the 220 and the Legacy 471 work just finely. Do you guys know what's causing this? If so, how do I fix it?

Can you post your orbiter.log file after the CTD?

Strange, nothing seems to be wrong. By the way, I get a "orbiter.exe has stopped working..." error message thing.

An oddball question....

I wonder if anyone has ever thought about what sort of payload a vehicle like this could launch into LLO (Low Lunar Orbit) from the surface of the Moon?

I'm looking for something to launch massive quantities of IMS modules from Brighton Beach to 100 km Lunar Orbit.

Except for the missing mesh. This will cause a CTD.

What payload are you loading onto the Quasar? Something is defined wrong somewhere. Either at booster sep or more likely at fairing sep when the payload would be visible.

It doesn't instantly crash, it crashes at T-28 seconds (The scenario starts at around T-60 seconds) And I'm not using any custom payload, just to regular cylinder/tube that is used in all the scenarios (Expect The Pegasus B).

How about the scenarios without the count-down...will they run properly with Q440 and Q452. If thats the case then its most likely not a vessel/payload/cargo problem
In the original package they are in the launchpad folder called quicklaunch. Mind you...no autopilot there if I recall.

Well, another weird problem... i can only say: try a new installation of the Quasar package... and/or try it in a clean Orbiter directory...

Several hundred (if not thousand) of tons even without any modification, for sure. The delta V from surface to LLO is 2,4 km/sec, compared to circa 9,5 km/sec for LEO. But a vehicle designed for the lunar environment surely would have nothing to do with the Quasar launcher...

I tried the quicklaunch scenarios and they work perfectly with the 440 and 452. I'll try reinstalling the Quasar mod.

I tried reinstalling it, and the countdown/autopilot scenarios worked perfectly!

Excellent!

Along with the Starlab workshop, Quasar will be revamped with new textures on the third stage, a more solid design for the boosters and other minor modifications in the core stage.

All these improvements are done from long time, waiting for the right moment for the release... :tiphat:

That version is out.
It's always the old multistage rocket. No substantial improvements, only the new meshes and textures mentioned above, that for some reason I forgot to upload before.

So if, I just add the new textures, and, meshes folders to the older version instead of installing the newest version will that work?

Every time you upgrade a Multistage2 launch vehicle to Multistage2015 standards, a fred18 gets his wings... ;)
