Oh boy, that sounds great. Nothing like going to a movie and watch people sit waiting.....or checking equipment....love it went the pace comes to a screeching halt.

They don't have to have it on the screen, just a quick bit of exposition, a captains log for example or a caption or an info dump.

e.g. David, over breakfast could say 'We've been orbiting and mapping this world for 5 days now and there are some interesting sites to land on, we've got A, B and C, which one should we land at?'

There you go, 2 seconds of dialogue and one problem solved.
