Exposition is the absolutely hardest thing to do in a film. It is boring when done complete. Nobody wants to pay to watch a movie of a guy standing in front of a black board explaining the whole world of the film. It is absolutely destroys pacing. Rather you throw it in when you can, when you need it, you can also either ignore it completely (which tends to work better than one would think), or you just summarize it in a single concept (You build a Time Machine? Out of a DeLorean?!? How does it work? ......Flux Capacitor, quick, get in the car!)
This film was paced quite fast. From the opening, to when you see the team on Earth, and bam you are in space quite quickly. You meet the team while already in cruise (at the end of the cruise as a matter of fact), so it is all drawn up as some sort of hastily assemlbed enterprise, which fits into the greater theme of the story truly, as it would sort of cheat that point if time was given to building the crew and briefing them on Earth.
Hard to discuss this point on a forum, as I do not want to give away any further spoilers than I or anyone else already has.
But my conclusion is Damon Lindelof should probably not be given the duty of writing scripts for big main stream highly anticipated projects anymore. The movie was good in spite of the bad script. But scripts are really one of the least important parts of a movie anyway, so I can see why they went with it.
Michael Fassbender was brilliant I thought btw.

That's my feeling too.
I think the power of science-fiction is the strength of a good idea, and good ideas trump bad writing or technical problems. For example, IMO, Philip K. Dick's prose is really pretty awful, but he is so terrifically imaginative that his books are rewarding.
In this way, I don't mind the failings of Prometheus too much, as at the end of the day I think the ideas at play are interesting. I'm surprised at how emotional some of the detractors sound here and I can only assume they felt the ideas in this film were lousy.

Neither Gladiator nor Robin Hood were exactly massive amounts of awesome IMHO, so it's not like I expect the Second Coming of Rick Deckard. Movies are a collaborative effort and in order to get awesomeness you need director, screenwriters, actors AND producers to share a vision. Doesn't happen often.

Wait, Gladiator wasn't awesome? Until 300 came out I think that movie had more a-kicking in it than I had ever seen.

It's not the quantity of a-kicking that matters, but the quality. Nothing beats the sheer craftmanship of a-kicking that is contained in Milius' Conan, IMHO.
OK, it's more a-slashing than a-kicking but hey...

Scary animals, nice ship.

When I saw the movie and the kit on Prometheus I immediately thought 'hmmm, orbiter addon, yes please!'.
Those engine nacelles would be a really hard thing to animate and the thrust vectors would be a nightmare. I know because I've just spent a good 9 or so hours trying to get it to work and flyable. Not to mention the gear animation which is more of a nightmare. I didn't have a good shoot of the model when I first saw it so I rolled my own. I had to fake the thrust because it was unflyable otherwise.

Ah, Alien, the only movie in which I found Sigourney Weaver slightly attractive
Without getting into spoiler territory, let me just say that this movie certainly does not disappoint.
Just finished watching Serenity. Noticed the Prometheus bares a slight family resemblance to a Firefly.
The only thing that bothered me was that it seemed like they were trying to make Noomi Rapace sexy, and she really wasn't IMO.

District 9 is a fantastic movie. But better than Serenity? No. Close, but this is not horseshoes.
and Galaxy Quest....that goes in my guilty pleasure catagory I think. I enjoy that movie, I really do.

I just saw Prometheus and thought it was pretty good. Intense special effects and a cool (if not very plausible) spaceship. It was a good scifi flick regardless of it using a worn out premise.
