Launch News Progress M-16M atop Soyuz-U on Aug 1/2, 2012

Hmmm..

in our local newspaper today they wrote such a fast encounter is much more expensive than the traditional one. But of course no background facts for this.

Does your newspaper has got a website? I'd like to have a reference to such info.

Well done!

Can this evolve into direct ascent? Or perhaps a 1-orbit docking?

In the past days, Geminis and Soyuz could do that, so no new achievement for today is here (Apollo ascent stages also reached the CSM in one orbit, I believe). I think, even running a resque mission is no point for trying to get there in one orbit (if you have to hurry this fast, you are likely already late with your help).

The same article appeared in another paper (from the same publisher company, only another regionalisation) which I found in the web:
http://www.tagblatt.de/Home/nachric...russischen-Raumtransporters-_arid,182425.html

Here is the google translation, not very good but readable:
http://translate.google.de/translat...russischen-Raumtransporters-_arid,182425.html

It's likely that something was lost in translation: in fact, the "fast" way is pure economy of resources, as people who involved in the activities, say at NK forum.

The Progress undocked from ISS today at 12:15:27 UTC.
