 "Your journey to mars starts at home"

Pictown is a fictionnal city created for Orbiter 2010. It is located south from cape Canaveral (but not too close for performance concern) and includes an airport to get quickly to the spaceport.


Pictown is highly optimised using the best modelisation technic to minimize the impact on the system, how it will run depends of your hardware, the best you can do to choose the correct version is to try them all. (files are overwritten so unusued version doesn't polluate your orbiter installation)

For better performances and look, you should use D3DX9 client or DX11 for Orbiter.
 
WARNING !: For scenarios tagged with "UCGO" you MUST HAVE UCGO (Universal car and Cargo) installed else Orbiter will crash to desktop !!!

I've been busy for days placing Pictown all over the world in various combinations. It's really easy (with a bit of work) to build whole cities!
It's so flexible and system friendly - doesn't seem to be any limit to what you can do with it !

May be some day some more city ​​neighborhoods will come, such us residential area, harbor, airport...

But I want to keep that system of independant bases for each city quarters for performances concerns.

Just to know, how many quarters have you place at the same location ?
do you know that it's very easy to add custom sounds as each place is a BASE.
Just give a look to Orbitersound doc and to the base sound for Pictown.

It's the same version that was hosted on Dan's domain.
A sympathetic consideration from him to release for Christmas because Orbithangar's admin was in holidays.

My mistake. :uhh:

I have removed all my ancient addons from Orbithangar as they were outdated and now,
Orbithangar considers that I am a noob. So I must wait five addons' post to be free to post without
the agreement from the admin.

It was a bit ...err long... it's true :lol: but finally its out and it's really excellent.
Not to spoil but it might be *possible* that you get something more from picto !

Arghhh everyone recall the whole story.
No, it's not Irridium ;)

But I bet it will be a nice "contribution to the Atmo-Club"
if by any chance Picto work faster than with ABFO :lol: Sorry Pic :cheers:

In fact Picto restarted almost from scratch for Pictown, so it took only about three-four weeks.
Once you've done your first release it's much more easy for the next.

I am the fastest addon maker ever seen in Orbiter's world ! :lol:

I would like to release the icing on the cake soon ( in french : the cherry
on the cake ) but I am on departure for a long time in a few days. :sad:

Hi guys,
Here are some news.
Coming very very soon.
A fire Dept for Pictown.

Arthur, there is no secret in this.;)

The only secret is to re-use textures and to merge
all objects in one group for one texture. Dan should
explain why better than I can.

For pictown there are "only" 35 textures, but the way
they are used gives the impression that they are more.
So it's not a lot of objects that you can see but ONLY 35

Another way to minimize impact on system is to modelize
with low poly.

When building I try to give the impression that there
are more faces than real. For exemple, if I cross two
boxes ( 20 polygones ) I give the impression that 32
polygones are displayed.

Another tip is : All unseen polygons are removed.
And so on.

Picto: Pictown looks very good, it is good to have a city close to rest after a long space voyage. I remember the video for UCO AFBO.

Dansteph: thanks for contributing with the vehicle Honda Jazz.
Among all Obiter is growing and becoming more and more complete. Perhaps in the near future Orbiter will the "universe simulator"

Awesome add on! However default city location is too close to the runway in my opinion.

Thanks a lot. I know it,
The airport had been build very quickly.
It's a little bit hard to make such big bases following the curvature of celestial bodies.

More to come soon, I'm working on it but I'm affraid the airport will not move.
But there will be a lot of cool new features including PreludeIII.
