Hi all,

Just wondering what people tend to be using for sound with Orbiter these days. I am developing some addons and would like to make them as clean and compatible as possible for people to install. I have plenty of experience using DanSteph's OrbiterSound SDK, and really like the 3D localized sound that it offers, especially for that immersive feeling in virtual cockpits, but it seems DanSteph has dropped off the radar. Are people still using OrbiterSound? Or would it be more worthwhile switching to XRSound?

Would love to hear your thoughts!

Thanks all,
MrMartian

Giving that XRSound will come standard starting with OpenOrbiter, I'd say that unless DanSteph makes a return, OS is dead from the moment OpenOrbiter makes its first public official release. So just go ahead and make the switch to XRSound.

I prefer XRSound for various reasons, especially since it can also support OrbiterSound 4.0 add-ons with Soundbridge.

When XRSound is integrated in Orbiter (means: officially released), we have finally a standard API and no longer add-ons with different sound plugins.

I went with XRSound, it's the safest bet. Dan doesn't seem to be around anymore and with XRS being part of Orbiter going forward, seemed like the logical choice. If O2016 showed me something, it's that the more we can "future proof" things, the better.

Hi All,
Just like to ask (what might be a newbie) question:
Does SoundBridge (by Face) work in OpenOrbiter and can it play/use sounds from OS 4.0 compiled addons? or even OS 5.0?

I prefer XRsound.
Xrsound with orbiter 2024 is better but orbitersound 5.1 works fine too.
You just have to sélect in the orbiterlaunchpad OS or XRSound.
Easy to do.

I like Orbitersound because of the possibility of command lines in the scn file

The "bridge" works fine, but orbitersound 5.1 will be like 4 version (no possibilité of command lines in the scn)
