A screenshot i took during my OFSS1 mission that got lost.

My brother, after watching me for months decided to have a try with Orbiter. He did'nt want to fly the deltaglider or anything except the XR2. So I let him at it. I took screenshots of his reentry to WAI. landed there the first without any previous experience with Orbiter. He says he is now hooked.

The only simming Hes ever done is fly an F-18 into a carrier in FSX

As usual, I was doing too much thinking, too early in the morning. I came up with a wild-hair idea about some technical minutia regarding the XR5.

I was thinking . . . the XR5 would probably use some sort of fuel cell system to provide electrical power to the ship (it already uses an APU to power the hydraulic systems as we all know).

As a point of redundancy (and just to monkey around with the layers and colour editing tools, I came across this reasoning:

The XR5 already uses a radiator assembly to disperse system heat, and as represented, they work well. Suppose there was a fuel cell failure?

To prevent (or mitigate) the unpalatable event of a FC failure (which would possibly inhibit such important things such as APU startup, oxygen replenishment and furtherance of human life aboard spacecraft), I came up with THIS:

Nerdy ideas are the BEST ideas out there. Good idea, seems a big waste of space, the inside of those doors.

That idea actually makes a lot of sense, the weight penalty is negligible on something that can drag 200+ mT into orbit. Also, XR5s routinely make circumlunar runs and could use another layer of backup.

...and it would certainly help to explain some of the factors of the dry weight of the vehicle -- fuel cells, auxiliary batteries, etc.

Our latest operational malfunction has spawned a quick ride to GEO. Here we are approaching a stranded satellite.

The battery bus on the satellite was good. Really good, in fact. It provided power all the way up to the GEO stabilization burn.

The problem, and the catalyst for all of the frenzied activity at Goddard Space Center, is the fact that a control return failure occurred with the solar panel bus. The satellite can't extend its panels and recharge itself.



By the time Constitution has made contact, the satellite is completely dead. No further information regarding its malady will be possible until an EVA can be performed to inspect the satellite.



Fifteen hours into the mission. Here the satellite will wait until the crew's sleep period is over.
