Greetings to all Forum members.

I am new to Orbiter (and also to Forums!). I have installed Orbiter on my laptop and have tried out the docking with ISS scenario which seemed to work well, but I have some questions.

I am not certain that I have the correct folder structure for Orbiter files. It is C:/Program Files/Orbiter2006/orbiter060929_base

Should downloaded files be unzipped into the Orbiter2006 folder or the orbiter base folder? It isn't clear from the documentation. I have unzipped the Earth L10 and PlanetHires textures into the Orbiter2006 folder, but I cannot tell if they are in the right place or if they are being used.

Also, if I click on Help from the Orbiter menu or from the Orbiter launchpad, I get the message 'Navigation to the webpage was cancelled', but frustratingly I can see the list of help contents on the left-hand-side of the page.

Some help with the questions above would be appreciated.

I usually just make an Orbiter folder as the directory then unzip the base to that folder. Sometimes you have to manually place the textures into certain folders so read the read mes. They will tell you what you have to do. For your help function problem, I remember that there was a thread already made which fixed that problem. Search it up on the search bar.

Thanks MJR

Thanks for your quick reply and for taking an interest in us beginners.

I have moved the Earth and other textures to the Textures2 folder, but I don't know whether they are in use as I do not know what I should see as I am new to Orbiter.

I found the thread on the Help Function which is now working.

It is good to know that there is help out there. Until next time. Cheers.

No problem. If you have any more questions feel free to ask. Post a picture of it and I can tell if it is in use.

You don't need to modify the folder structure of the zip file at all. In your case, make the C:\Program Files\Orbiter 2006\ directory, and then unzip the contents of "orbiter20060929_base.zip" to that directory. You do not need a folder called "orbiter20060929_base" in that directory.

If done correctly, the folders under C:\Program Files\Orbiter 2006 should be:
Config
Doc
Flights
Html
Images
Meshes
Modules
Scenarios
Textures
Textures2
Utils

You don't need to move anything around, just unzip to that folder and everything will be set up correctly.

MJR you are really fast! It was quite a challenge for me to capture this shot. It is in members galleries > Kieran. I hope you can see more than the small thumbnail to help answer my question about the L10 textures.

Hello Hielor. Thanks for being specific about folder locations. I will be able to simplify the structure and remove the unnecessary folders, then hopefully, everything will be in the right place. Cheers.

The documentation included with the L10 textures gives instructions as to the correct place to put the files.

I don't think that you unpacked it right. Read the documentation.

The answer to the Help Features NOT working is as follows:

Go to Orbiter's Html Folder. For each help file (.chm) do the following: right-click and select Properties - click on the Security Tab - click on Edit Permissions - move the blue bar to your username, then tick the box Full Control, then click on Apply (to give yourself full access to the help file).
