Hi there,

I know that there are a few meshes out for Olympus Mons, but none of them color-match the L11 surface textures for Mars. Is someone already working on this? It would definitely make the Olympus Base look a lot better.

Thanks again,
Pioneer

Someone already made a new L11 compatible texture set for previously released add-ons. I think it is exactly what you are looking for. I have it, but I haven't tried it.

Here is the readme:
New Textures for Martian Landmarks. PART 1

Hi,
There is new texture set for Martian landmarks perfectly compatible with the Mars L11 global texture. The Part 1 contains textures for terrain meshes avaible at orbithangar.com.

You need previously installed the following add-ons:
- Olympus Mons (by Foxtrot) http://orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=4918
- Olympus Base Enhancement (by Aviator14) http://orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=3252
- Valles Marineris (by Foxtrot) http://orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=4917
- Vallis Dao (Jtiberius): http://orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=1359
- Port Dao (by anemazoso): http://orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=2159
- Ausonia Mensa (by astrogull): http://orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=3952
- Mars - First Steps 2091 (by Peaceman): http://orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=2568
- Nanedi Valles (by anemazoso): http://orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=2922
- Columbia hills (by astrogull): http://orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=3955

Also locations of the bases were corrected to matching with Mars L11 global texture. Besides there are corrections in mars.cfg so the human buildings appear since date of 25 Oct 2090 (MJD 84714.0000). Of course you can modify this in mars.cfg by correcting parameter PERIOD.

INSTALLATION
1) Install all of the addons listed above.
2) Unzip into Orbiter folder, overwrite files. WARNING! It will overwrite olympus.cfg and mars.cfg. If you don't like this, you can modify this file by yourself. Copy the following strings:
DIR Mars\Base PERIOD - 84714.00000
DIR Mars\Base\MFS-2091 PERIOD 84714.00001 -
and paste in mars.cfg between BEGIN_SURFBASE and END_SURFBASE deleting "DIR Mars\Base". This will make human bases unavaible prior 25 Oct 2090 (MJD 84714.0000).

Have nice martian flyings!

Is this add-on familiar to anyone? I don't remember who made it, and I can't find it on O-H. (People, please put your author name in the readme!) Perhaps I'm not looking hard enough, or perhaps it was from another website.

If it's gone, perhaps I can put it on dropbox. But I want to avoid that without permission.

It is not on OH ( released in 2011 ) and the author, alexander spb, is not actually on OH.

I know it was, I have Part 1.
PM me that file or post it here, whatever you wish. I used to have that addon but I lost it when I reinstalled Orbiter. Does anyone have Part 2?

Looks great to me. Just make the redder parts lighter and smooth out the edges and it should be good.

Hopefully Orbiter Beta 2014 will be working better soon, it should be better than this.

I have tried to make the edges transparant in Gimp but shows black in orbiter and it is the best colour match I can do. I could send the texture if someone would like to tweak it,then it would look good:thumbup:

This is some pictures from Orbiter Beta 2014 of Olympus Mons, it probably is not worth making meshes of it when Beta 2014 is fully released.

Im not sure that I can have the 2014 because of the download size and HD space, unless I upgrade to a bigger PC which I can't at the mo. I will relese it as it is. Im sure Im not alone with the restrictions.

No point in waiting for the Beta.
There are still many issues with the terrain pooping up when you low your altitude, a black horizon when the terrain goes bellow datum, etc, etc.
At least the last time I checked it was like that.

So I'd rather have the meshes for 2010 and worry about 2014 when that's ready.

Yes 4throck, I do agree there are too many issues with 2014 terrain to be playable yet. But I did hear it may be ready for release in Oct.

I am just saying that height maps are superior to the meshes, I have seen some bases look very bad at a distance when on approach, the background will appear to be moving around the base at a distance.

I am just saying that Orbiter 2014 will make the mesh redundant and resources would be better spent elsewhere.

Do you mean that the base/mesh can be seen through the moon sphere on approach?.That can be corrected by reducing the object size number in its base config file.
