OFMM-1 - Communications satellite to Lunar Orbit

The scenario:

BEGIN_DESC
OFMM-1 - This mission will take the NASA DSCS satellite delivered in OFMM-P1 and launch it on a Neptune-1 Rocket into Lunar orbit for two weeks of Earth - DSCS testing. At the end of the two week period the DSCS should be left in a 600 x 660km lunar orbit and in hibernation should it be required during the Mars missions.

NOTE: No add on MFD for Earth - Moon has been suggested. It is the mission commanders DECISION to use whichever they feel comfortable with. The commander has sole discretion on how the mission is executed. Any deviations from the flight plan should be noted in a post mission report.

Enjoy!

Scenario received and tested. Other than the missing bracket on the MISC section of the .ini file :p, everything works ok.
Launch will be ~1 day after the scenario start, in order to get the Nep-1 in a coplanar to the Moon parking orbit, with a daytime launch.
Scenario, photos and annotated playback will be posted on Sunday 29th of January.
In the mean time, I added a little bit of eye-candy.
The developers did a great job with the launch site, it would be a waste not to use it:
OFMM-1-2.jpg

And a silly little repaint:

@Pipcard
I "hear" that you are good at making patches. Could you make one for this mission?

Tomorrow. What do you want the patch to look like?

Here's the patch:

As to why the DSCS is not facing Earth: it's called artistic license.

That looks good... but lazy.
According to the mission roster, you are still the backup commander of this mission. Where is your name in that patch?
Why does my name not follow the curve of the patch?

Just kidding, great job!

I'm going to put my name instead of yours in case you fail to complete this mission.

I just vectorized the patch using vectormagic.com, but I didn't download the result; I used Print Screen instead and cleaned up the image a bit more in Inkscape and GIMP.

(because you have limited downloads unless you pay)

The mission was successful.
I've placed the DSCS on a 600x660 km orbit around the Moon, with zero EQU inclination. Scenario and pics will be posted in about an hour. Hopefully with a fully annotated playback.

OFMM-1 playback

Here is an annotated playback of OFMM-1.
Download the OFMM-1.zip file attached on this post and unzip it in your Orbiter directory. Then run the OFMM-1 scenario in the Playback folder.
Make sure that you have already installed the addons mentioned in this post. Just the addons, nothing else.
If you want to use the repaint of the Nep-1
OFMM2.jpg

download the OFMM-1 Nep-1 textures.zip file (also attached) and unzip it in you Orbiter directory. Make sure you keep backups.

Watch the playback with all the boxes checked on the flight recorder/player tab.
Camera views have been set (according to my view of the playback).
Runtime is about 17 minutes.

Great work dgatsoulis - Any problems with DSCS or do you think that'll be suitable for Mars?

I'll check out the scenario tomorrow and start getting the next one put together.

Correct me if I'm wrong (which I probably am), but with that amount of delta-v available, wouldn't it be possible using the exact same configuration, to launch the satellites once again? Or do we need one more powerful to boost it all three there?

The DSCS is great. RiverCrab made a very nice addon.
For the purpose of OFMM, it fits perfectly in the Nep-1 and you can fit 3 of those in the Quasar. In my mission I didn't need any of the dV it could provide, but I'm sure that if things go wrong, you can rely on the DSCS.
Besides... the most beautifull "blue" I've ever seen in panels.

launch them again where? the DSCS thats around the moon will be kept there as a testing version for the ones that will be launched to Mars. This way if something goes wrong with one at Mars we have one in lunar orbit we can test stuff out on.

Just a note: For some reason, when using the D3d9 client, this crashes Orbiter while loading Contrail2.dds. I just thought you should know, maybe note it for people. (It could just be me, but better safe than sorry) Using the standard dx7 engine works fine (though I had to make sure the OFMM-1.ini file was in place).

Edit: Well gosh darn it, it was on my end. Messed up some symlinks and whatnot. Nevermind.
