Hi!

I'm really new at Orbiter and I'm trying a fresh install of it with higher resolution textures.

Reading between the Orbiter main site, this forum and other Orbiter-related sites I decided to install the following textures:

- Earth L11-L14
- Mars L11
- Moon L11
- Outer Planets Base Pack + Patch + Highres 1 + Highres 2
- Baikonur 2010 surface tiles

Is this a comprehensive enough list or am I missing important textures?

The other question is technical: while the Outer Planets pack clearly states it modifies some .cfg files, the other textures need only to be unpacked in the appropriate directory (generally Textures2, afaik). Do I need to make any modifications to .cfg files in order for Orbiter to apply the higher resolution textures or simply unpacking them is enough for the program to apply the textures?

Last question: as far as I understood, the Outer Planets pack is for Orbiter 2006, while I'm using Orbiter 2010-P1: someone knows if there are compatibility issues?

Thanks for your help and your patience and please excuse me if my English isn't really good...

Hi! first of all, welcome to the forum :hello:

- Earth L11-L14
- Mars L11
- Moon L11
- Outer Planets Base Pack + Patch + Highres 1 + Highres 2
- Baikonur 2010 surface tiles

This depends on your self. If you want to travel to to Mars, the Moon, the outer planets and also wants to be in Earth's orbit from time to time, this is okay ;)

If the readme file (or other documentations) don't mention it, you don't have to anything in .cfg files. Then you just have to unpack them in your Orbiter installation.

Last question: as far as I understood, the Outer Planets pack is for Orbiter 2006, while I'm using Orbiter 2010-P1: someone knows if there are compatibility issues?

It's tested and compatible with Orbiter 2010.
Here's a list with compatible add-ons for Orbiter 2010 if you want more ;): http://www.orbiter-forum.com/showthread.php?t=16177

Thanks for your help and your patience and please excuse me if my English isn't really good...
It's not bad at all!

I hope I've answered your questions. Good luck!

Thank you, you've been very helpful.

I asked the question about the .cfg because many texture packages came without a readme file: the archive contained only a folder named "Textures2" and nothing else (or maybe I didn't see the readme).

Now I understand that this means no modifcations are needed.

Thanks again for your help!

If your are like me, you will start by trying several addons ship with orbiter. Some my interfere with others addons, creating bugs in your orbiter installation (if you put older addons from the hangar that might not be fit for 2010 P1).

I just want to suggest you to create a ''perfect'' orbiter installation with all your basic stuff (textures, sound, ummu, etc.) that you can copy paste if you mess something up at the beginning, as I did. It will save you a lot of time.
Have fun!
