Hey all, I installed orbiter about a month ago, and am completely hooked. Been playing Falcon for a while, now I can go up and into space, how fun is that. too bad the F16 has better flight-characteristics, but the autopilots in orbiter are great. I've never thought about atmospheric flight being a kind of orbit.. it screws up my thinking in falcon :)

can anyone tell me a good way to keep the same altitude while flying in atmosphere with the XR2? Decent AP uses the hover, wich I don't want, and Attitude AP keeps pitch, but not altitude.

Welcome to the forum. :)

Use the trim controls (Insert-Delete) for level flight inside atmosphere. Set your travel speed and play with the trim until you get ~0 VS.

Hey, another Dutchman,

Als het goed is zie je in het vakje van de descent AP twee pijltjes met een nummertje.
Als je op het linkerpijltje drukt krijg je attitude AP.(nummer 2)
PM me maar voor meer vragen.

Sorry for the foreign language guys. Just answering his question.

hey, okay thanks.. just figured out how to coast at mach 8 at 60k altitude using atitude AP. trying to cross 7000km suborbital at the highest possible speed. gotta work on slowing down without burning up.

You'll get some ideas here: [ame="http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=3669"]KSC to Ascension Island in 20 minutes[/ame] (its 8200 km, so pretty close to what you are trying to achieve).

hey tblax, that's so cool! I'll try that. Coïncidence will it that I happen to be taking off from Wideawake.. I like that island so much.. :)

my orbiter crashes on loading his scn file.. must be something incompatible.. he did it in 20 min. i;ll try doing mine, see where I land, gotta get the braking at high speeds under control, keep overshooting by about 1000km :)

ok, got it playing.. man.. that guy really pushes the limits.. cool idea to fly upside down. nice landing, too.
