misha.physics submitted a new addon:

Negishima Space Center (Orbiter 2016/OpenOrbiter compatible) - The minimal changes of the original add-on were made for the Orbiter 2016/OpenOrbiter compatibility

The original Negishima Space Center v0.2 by @Pipcard.

No meshes/textures/surface tiles (except for the blue halo of water around the island) have been changed.

CHANGES/ADDITIONS:

  • Textures2 directory with surface tiles has been removed, since it's not supported by Orbiter 2016/Open Orbiter;
  • Surface tiles have been made up to 14 level from the original ones to match...

It looks like I found some a typo in the Negishima CFG file, namely the VOR coordinates differ a lot from the base location:

The same values are presented in the original add-on. So, you can change them yourself.

Wow, 5 degrees of latitude is a lot of distance, why didn't we notice it earlier?

Maybe we didn't use that VOR beacon?

Maybe we didn't use that VOR beacon?

Possible, maybe we should discuss generally, if anybody actually uses the VORs and how? In the real world, VOR/DME become more and more deprecated and replaced by GPS/RNAV.

I didn't use the Negishima VOR beacon, because I didn't fly to the Negishima base, but I used the VOR beacon of other bases for the VOR/VTOL MFD, since I don't see any alternatives.

I rarely use VOR for navigation, for various reasons. First of all, because the VOR are either too rare on the surface or because they are not placed where they could assist landing spacecraft. I remember I made a fix once for the Dynasoar runway, that just changed the VOR position such relative to the runway threshold, that aiming for it led precisely to the virtual gates for a good and easy landing approach, but I can't remember how I calculated the positions anymore. Was similar to the HAC calculations of the Space Shuttle, just a bit more restricted to use only one VOR for all approaches.

I find the VOR useful for bases on Moon, Mars, although I didn't play it a lot. Maybe you use some add-ons for navigation, since I don't know any default instruments for the base approach.

What fictional states are there in Orbiter and what are the laws?
And if there are, give a link to the website of the virtual state in Orbiter 2010/2016/2024
