I've got a classical tune in my head and don't know the name. It's got a fairly fast tempo, I think is usually played on the violin, and has a beat as follows:

Short short long, short short long, short short long long. short short long, short short long, short short long. (With commas and periods representing short and long pauses)

The tune follows a pattern of approximately:

mid mid low, mid mid low, mid mid low high. mid mid low, mid mid low, mid mid low. (With the second "sentence" generally descending)

Can anybody with a broad knowledge of classical music suggest tune names that might match?

Not a 'broad' knowledge; mostly Mozart and a little Beethoven, which is what came to mind.

But it could be anything. I'd suggest listening to the local classical station for awhile. Chances are you heard it on the radio originally, which means it's part of 'the repertoire', and thus, likely to be heard moderately frequently.

Or you might give the local classical station a call late some night; these folks are pretty knowledgeable, and 'spinning' classical tunes in the middle of the night can be pretty boring; they will usually be grateful someone is listening (and that, by calling, you are helping to keep them awake:lol:), and really want to help.

record yourself humming the tune and post it here, then perhaps somebody can help you (mid mid low mid mid low doesn't help at all)

I would say Mozart, it isn't heavy enough for Beethoven.

I agree with Eccentrus, please record yourself humming the song. I tried to clap the mid mid low thing, but I couldn't make any connection to the songs I know.

Yeah, I was wondering at first, I couldn't find anything like it in the Jupiter Symphony.

Thanks!
