I joined back in 2012, I played around a bit, but never did anything past orbiting earth. Today, I fired up orbiter, added the addons I think are essential, and took the delta glider to the ISS, I docked and it was an amazing feeling :thumbup:

However, docking was not easy, since I had left the MDF refresh rate to 1.0
I changed it to 0.05 and it worked wonderful, docking was much easier, but the thing is, that if I set it below 0.5 it will make the interior cockpit or MDF modes very laggy. Is there any known solution to this?

And while I'm at it, my textures a bit low res, I don't know why. I had to download a l10 texture from the hangar, because http://downloadorbitersim.com is no longer available. How do I get the l14 Moon and Earth textures? :facepalm:

The best Moon texture without doubt is in a post by Veterok a few months ago. Ive been looking for it but at the moment I can,t find it. I will keep looking for you.
It is around 1gb, and there is also a Normal map file at 1gb, but you won,t need that yet. It really is stunning. I seem to spend all my time on the moon.

Welcome back!

Are you using the D3D9 graphics client? It works wonders in boosting fps.
Maybe this is not the case, since you're talking about docking, but in D3D9 there's a serious fps loss with the MAP MFD. If you use it, try to zoom in - at least - one level. The more, the smoother.

P.S.: I use an MFD refresh rate of 0.01 with no problems, and my pc's hardware isn't really up to date.

This post? I didn't know there were alternative textures for the moon. I'll have to check it out.

It isn't the hardware which is the problem, but the lack of GDI acceleration support in new Windows systems.

For example, you can run the D3D7 Orbiter on a 2003 year hardware and Windows XP with 300 FPS with ClearType enabled, and on a 2011 hardware and Windows 7 with 30 FPS with ClearType disabled.

Erm, so Microsoft is at least partially to blame? What exactly is GDI?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Graphics_Device_Interface#Windows_Vista:
{...} GDI is no longer hardware-accelerated by the video card driver.

{...}

Windows 7 includes GDI hardware acceleration for blitting operations {...} Most primitive GDI operations are still not hardware-accelerated {...}

I am using the d3dp client, I can't figure out why my framerate drops when the refresh rate is below 0.5 :(

thanks for the link to the textures blixel!

Thanks Blixel for the link. You will need level 8 and level 11 surface textures.
PM if you cant find where the files go. You don,t need the Normal maps yet as the D3D9 client isn,t set for them yet.

I haven't found anything to fix this. Guess I will just have to quicksave, change the refresh rate and then load the save before docking...

I use 0.01 refresh rate for the MFDs and fly only using graphics clients, mainly D3D9, and I have no issues with it.

only? I might be doing something wrong, I downloaded the d3d9 client and just put it with the other mods in the orbiter folder. Is there something I have to do before it does anything?

Run orbiter_ng.exe and enable the dx9 in modules tab

Be sure to run the Orbiter_ng.exe when using the D3D9 Client. Also remember to enable it in the Modules tab (still in the Orbiter_ng).
