It's not a good look. IMHO, they would have been better selecting a women or two because it is a rare opportunity for them to study the social dynamics. Otherwise, when they come to select the crew for a real Mars mission, that particular area will not have been studied and would weigh against the selection of women. Surely there would have been suitable candidates...

It's nothing more than a mistranslation. Not a very good semantic and cultural matching of the term 'girl' between two languages.
