I put a satellite into lunar orbit. I landed on the moon and checked out the satellite and it was suddenly on the ground.

To confirm to myself that I did not put the satellite into an orbit doomed to degrade, I opened the quicksave file that was saved right after satellite deployment. I did a time warp of 10,000x for at least 15 real time minutes. The satellite never came down, which means I don't have any more theories. Has this happened to anyone else? Does anyone have any theories or explanations?

Could you post the scenario file for us (that quicksave that is)? And has this happened again since your experiment with time compression? As in, did you recover on the moon from the same quicksave point and again the sat was grounded?

Time warping when focusing on another vessel could make the other vessel (the satellite in this case) crash, especially if they orbit near the atmosphere.
You did a test time warping with the focus on the satellite, but when it crashed you had the focus on another vessel.
Try to repeat the mission with less time warp and see if this solves the problem.
