has anyone ever tried to land a DG on the sun?

i have, and it had a very strange outcome (Hint hint ;))

Well i hit it with the arrow and i mysteriously bounced off and landed on mercury without killing my crew :)

ditto there, i dont think it can handle vessels on the surface of the sun, so it drops them on the closest planetary body

I hit the sun once and it shot me out of the solar system in seconds.

I messed up when adding a vessel to the scenario file. Orbiter decided to add it at 0,0,0 - the center of the sun - it was very, very bright in there........

ha, try using top time acceleration when landed, does the same thing, pretty annoying when youre trying to warp to a launch window (worst overshoot ever ;))

Fighting gravity becomes harder and harder as you approach the Sun. I tried it today with low tangential velocity, and it was like going down an increasingly steep hill. On the last few million kilometres I was roaring along retrograde with my throttle open trying to lower my velocity, but I was still accelerating Sunwards at over 200m/s^2!! By the time I hit the surface I was traveling nearly 300km/s and bounced out of the Solar System. Whew!

By the way, that was with an Arrow Freighter. How the heck did you manage to land on Mercury?? That's crazy, man!

Make sure you go there at night.

prior to landing on the sun everybody should watch sunshine.

"watch the sunshine"? as if you could watch anything else ;P

It is possible. Just make sure you are at the proper angle. Try a slingshot around the sun and then go retrograde. you will then be able to slingshot to mercury or back to earth.

It's actually some sort of bug... if certain things go wrong a certain way, you end up on Mercury.

I have no clue as to why.

Don't forget to buy good sunglasses and some high grade sunblock before going to the sun.

That's nothing, I've landed on Mercury with NASSP unintentionally for no apparent reason before.

On a more on-topic note: I've done many-a sun sling for high velocity hyperbolic escape trajectories. One must be careful not to end up too crispy.
