Project ISSU

--UPDATE--

OK team, I have now uploaded all the ISS meshes from NASA to the ISSU SVN repository in .3DS format.
They are in Development Resources/Meshes

Now, a little info on the SVN:

--UPLOADING/DOWNLOADING FILES--
If any team members want the ability to be able to upload work to the SVN, you must first:
1. Create yourself a free Sourceforge account
2. PM or E-Mail me your Sourceforge username, so I can add you to the ISSU project
3. Download Tortoise SVN (free)
Then you have the ability to upload things to the SVN;)

Then:

1. Create yourself a folder on your HDD to store all files from the SVN repository. It doesn't matter what you call it, but I would suggest "ISSU SVN"

2. Right-click on the new folder and select "SVN Checkout". In the "URL of repository", paste:
https://projectissu.svn.sourceforge.net
/svnroot/projectissu

3. Now, Tortoise should create all files & folders from the ISSU SVN in your folder on your HDD.

4. Then you can put any files you wish to upload in that folder. To upload files to the SVN, right-click and select "SVN commit". When asked, input your username & password for your Sourceforge account.

In future, to receive files other have uploaded to the SVN, click on the folder and select "SVN Update". To upload files, select "SVN Commit".

Whenever something new is "checked in", can all members please use the "Show Log" feature when you right-click a file or folder to upload, to type a brief description of what the new file is for, or what you have changed/altered, before you upload it. This is essential to keep track of what we have got/have not got. Thanks:)

--FILE STRUCTURE--
On the ISSU SVN, there are 2 main folders:

"Finished ISSU Files (FOR USE IN ORBITER)"
and
"Development Resources"

ONLY files that are finished, are in Orbiter format, and are working, should be put into the corresponding folder in "Finished ISSU Files (FOR USE IN ORBITER)".
All other work should go into the correct folder in "Development Resources" If you need another folder in there, just create it:). I'm open to advice/suggestions on this structure, as it's my first time using Sourceforge.

Modelling info:

OK, here's the latest team changes:

"Erupter" has now joined the ISSU team as a modeller.
http://www.orbithangar.com/searchauth.php?search=Erupter

"Marco Gavezzeni" has now joined the team as a texturer.
http://www.orbithangar.com/searchauth.php?search=marcogavazzeni

So the modelling team is currently Unussapiens + Erupter. I think ISSU now has the combined skills to do what is needed (remember all we are doing currently is adapting existing work), so, If it's OK with everyone, I'd like to start development:speakcool:

First task: Destiny

Firstly, I need some info.

If all modellers on the ISSU SVN, go to: Development Resources/Research Pictures/Destiny, they will find all my best pics of Destiny. Please note the two raised tile areas near the top of Destiny, and again near the PDGF & Trunnion pins. What I need to know is: the textures for these I have, but do you need them separate, or as part of the main tile texture? I'm still learning about modelling so excuse my ignorance:rofl:

My textures are correct, takes from actual images. So if the model is based on my textures that it too will be correct, yes?

And another question: For the Destiny Nadir window & CBM hatch window, will it be possible to have glass effects? I don't yet know how to do these for use with 3D meshes. I can do them as a PNG image file though.

Anyway, once I have this info, I will finish my textures & upload them to the SVN. Then we can start work adapting Donamy's Destiny form his ISS Experience package, re-texturing it & adding the interior. the Poscik can add the animations:speakcool:

NOTE: PAYLOAD WILL BE DESIGNED FOR PAYLOAD BAY OF LATEST VERSION OF SSU (currently V1.26)

I'll post a full plan with individual member tasking here in a few days, once my textures are complete.

I'm updating my repo right now. In modelling work, I can resize models for normal dimensions. It's not a problem for me. In which folder can I find Destiny mesh?

Destiny mesh is not on SVN. You will have to convert Donamy's ISS Experience vessel into correct format for whichever 3D program you use, then delete all other modules apart from Destiny. The you could upload that single Destiny module to SVN.

Sizing needs to be done so that it works with my textures (which I will upload later this week). So for now, it would be really helpful if you could just separate Donamy's ISS vessel into a single Destiny mesh.

Thanks:cheers:

Just give me about 5 minutes ;)

-----Post Added-----

I can't load ISS mesh. I have error while importing:
-- No ""*"" function for undefined

I have Destiny from Mustard's site, so I can convert it to 3ds.

OK, only problem with that is that I think Donamy's interior is sized for his Destiny module only. I will speak to him & see if he has the mesh in .3DS format lying around on his HDD, maybe he could upload it to the SVN or something?

I'll PM him.:)

OK, I have sent him the PM.

I can resize Donamy's interior too. It will take few minutes to align it with mesh.

The backup option will have to be Destiny from Mustard's page, NASA do not seem to have a Destiny mesh.

If Donamy does not have a .3DS of his ISSE we can use, then we will have to proceed with Mustard's Destiny.

I'll let you know of his reply.

I was planning to use some other stuff of Donamy's aswell, like his PDGF, FRGF etc.

Destiny's actual size in real life is:

Length: 8.53 m (28 ft)
Diameter: 4.27 m (14 ft)

But it also needs to fit SSU payload bay so that trunnion pins line up with the retention latches, so those may need to change.

Destiny's mesh in 3ds file have been checked in. It needs to be textured. Next step is resize Donamy's interior for it.

I modified dimensions of destiny, so I have checked in new resized mesh. Revision with proper dimesions is 8.

OK thanks. We'll go with that mesh unless I hear otherwise.

I'm going to get the interior from Donamy hopefully in the next day. But I understand he is very busy with SSU currently.

Next step I think is to start making adjustments to the mesh of Destiny. Mainly just resizing, adding some raised areas, trunnon pins & realistic EVA handrails. When my textures are done (next 2 days) mesh can be made to fit those. I have a separate texture for the window cover, as I was thinking we could have an animation to open/close it.

I will ask Mustard to ask No Matter for his permission to adapt & re-distribute his model (should be OK):)

Thanks again Poscik:cheers:

Just done a rep. update. Got it in Anim8or now:lol:

Current mesh has no groups, so we must create them after finishing all work with Destiny. All of animated parts must be grouped separately.

OK.
I'm hoping to finish my textures in next 2 days. Then Unussapiens + Erupter could add extra parts to mesh + texture them with my textures. Then you could add interior + do animations.

That's the plan anyway:P

Thanks again,

-Pete

P.S.
I just E-Mailed Mustard to ask him to ask No Matter for his permission.

I'll just keep doing my thing where I post occasional comments on the development...

The meshes should be made to real dimensions and then modified to work with SSU. Textures can be made to fit easily.

--INFO--

I just checked in all my textures to the SVN. Some are unfinished.

Go to:
Development Resources/Textures/Texture Image Files

OK team, Erupter has just informed me that he now has Donamy's Destiny as a single mesh in .3DS format. So I think we will use that one as:
1) There are a few things such as PDGF that we could use from it
2) We already have permission to use it
He will E-Mail the mesh to me, and I will replace the current Destiny on the SVN with this new one later.

So, the raised areas (that have different textures) I will include as part of the main texture file, not as separate textures. That way, if all raised areas are designed from the textures, they should be correct + line up.

So here's the plan:

1. Size Destiny with correct, real-life sizes. But Destiny will also need to fit the new SSU bay, so once I find out the dimensions of that, It may have to be adapted to fit it.

2. Add all detailed areas to mesh (as shown on my texture)
1) PDGF (+ raised area around it)
2) FRGF
3) Add EVA handrails (already good, realistic mesh for those in "airlock" mesh on SVN)
4) Trunnion pins (+ raised areas leading to them)
5) Raised area on top of Destiny
6) Hole in underside (for window into interior)
7) Hole in front & aft (sized to fit CBM hatches as used in interior)
8) Add separate group for window cover
9) Add Donamy's interior (resize?)
10) Adapt Donamy's interior to:
A) Include nadir window with glass effects
B) Hole in front & aft to fit CBM hatch (+ line up with holes in exterior)
C) Separate CBM hatch group (using my textures) with actual windows, in place of holes in front & aft.
11) Texture Destiny using my textures

3. Add animations to open/close both CBM hatches + window cover [POSCIK]

4. Add realistic air-con sound to interior [I WILL DO THIS]

That should be it :)

ALL MEMBERS: Please post here what you can/would be willing to do, then I can organise development flow plan, & the we can start

(NOTE: PLEASE SEE DESTINY PICTURES ON SVN FOR INFO ON RAISED AREAS I DESCRIBE ABOVE)

I'm going to:
. Finish my textures + check the updated files into the SVN
. Get Donamy's interior on SVN
. Find out the dimensions of the new SSU bay.
I'm also currently working on textures for the PMA & Unity (next task).
@ Unussapiens: Maybe you could upload your current Unity stuff to the SVN?

I think ISSU now has SRB ignition:speakcool:

Thanks again to all,

-Pete

Just checked in the new Destiny mesh by Donamy (adapted by Erupter)

Hell i totally lost track of this.
Sorry.
I'm trying to keep up with you here.

1st) my Tortoise told me "Error Repository moved temporarily to 'http://projectissu.svn.sourceforge.net/';" when i entered the url posted above, so no download nor update

2nd) i'm a bit lost as to what exactly should be done
this evening i'll have a look at the textures, adapting should not be a problem

3rd) what do you mean by glass effect?
reflection is usually a transparency with a superimposed false reflection texture. just define the transparent material and texture and you're set

4th) what exactly should be done to the mesh?
i just cut it out from the rest of the iss because i don't know exactly what to do, obviously adding detail, shaping it more accurately or anything else is going to require a bit of time.

Don't we have a more "chatty" way of communication? at least for getting started i'd prefer a more fluent exchange if possible just to grasp how to cohordinate with all of you.

5th) resizing the module itself and the interior should not be much of a problem, welding them together may instead require a bit of a work (boundary areas most probably don't fit neatly...)

6th) what type of texture "file distribution" are we looking at here? all in one "destiny" file or distributed?

Think it's all for now.
Hope not to be too much of a pain in the l-pad ;)

Hi Erupter.

1st) my Tortoise told me "Error Repository moved temporarily to 'http://projectissu.svn.sourceforge.net/';" when i entered the url posted above, so no download nor update
What exactly did you do/press to get this message?

2nd) i'm a bit lost as to what exactly should be done
this evening i'll have a look at the textures, adapting should not be a problem
My textures are not quite finished yet, so there is no point doing anything with them yet. I hope to have them finished later on today, if not definately tomorrow

3rd) what do you mean by glass effect?
reflection is usually a transparency with a superimposed false reflection texture. just define the transparent material and texture and you're set
Yes, the reflective effects you describe above will be fine :)

4th) what exactly should be done to the mesh?
i just cut it out from the rest of the iss because i don't know exactly what to do, obviously adding detail, shaping it more accurately or anything else is going to require a bit of time.
All that really needs doing is
1) Resizing
2) Adding interior + adapting it for new hatches
3) Adding detail like EVA handrails, trunnion pins, hatches, windows & raised tile areas. Once my textures are finished, I will upload another copy of them, where I will mark in red which areas need changing + what needs changing on them. I have pictures of what needs changing also. I will explain all this in more detail once textures are finished:)
4) Texturing

Don't we have a more "chatty" way of communication? at least for getting started i'd prefer a more fluent exchange if possible just to grasp how to co-ordinate with all of you.
If you want my MSN, I will PM it to you:) Also there is the ISSU wiki, where communication is available by Google Docs. But this would require a lot of set-up. For now, MSN is best, I think.

6th) what type of texture "file distribution" are we looking at here? all in one "destiny" file or distributed?
On the SVN, all finished files could go in the "Finished Files" folder. All those files should be in correct format for use in orbiter. If not, all stuff should be in "Development resources" folder:)
