Well how hard is it to drive two bolts in orbit? Suni Williams and Aki Hoshide prove that it could be THAT hard. The spacewalk is the third longest ever (8 hours, 17 minutes), but the duo failed to install the new power box on the ISS (and had difficulty removing the old one). Only one other task was completed, which means another EVA is in order (particularly because the not installed MBSU means that the ISS is now down to single-fault tolerant for the power supply system).

The new MBSU have been installed and power channel 1A is back up again at 151.35V! Once testing and checkout of the 1A channel is done, they'll activate and checkout the 1B power channel.

---------- Post added at 06:28 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:12 PM ----------

Power channel 1B is now up and running at 162.22V! So it appears the MBSU R&R has been a complete success!

NASA Crew News Conference to Preview Space Station Expeditions

Sept. 05, 2012

HOUSTON -- NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston will hold an Expedition 34 and 35 crew briefing Thursday, Sept. 13, to preview the upcoming missions aboard the International Space Station. NASA Television and the agency's website will broadcast the briefing live.

At 1 p.m.CDT, Expedition 34 and 35 crew members Thomas Marshburn of NASA, Chris Hadfield of the Canadian Space Agency and Roman Romanenko of the Russian Federal Space Agency will discuss their mission. They are set to launch to the space station aboard the Soyuz TMA-07M spacecraft Dec. 5 and return to Earth in May 2013.

Marshburn, Hadfield and Romanenko are three of the six crew members comprising Expeditions 34 and 35. When they arrive at the station, they will join NASA astronaut Kevin Ford and Russian cosmonauts Evgeny Tarelkin and Oleg Novitskiy.

In March 2013 as Ford, Novitskiy and Tarelkin depart the station, Hadfield will become the first Canadian commander of the complex for Expedition 35.

RIA Novosti: Europe’s ATV-3 Spacecraft to Readjust Space Station’s Orbit:
Engines of the European Space Agency’s ATV-3 spacecraft will be switched on to readjust the orbit of the International Space Station (ISS) on early Friday, a spokesman for the Russian Mission Control said.

“The operation is expected to start at 7:15 Moscow time [3:15 GMT]. The engines of the Edoardo Amaldi spacecraft, docked with the station, will remain switched on for 536 seconds and the average altitude of the station will be raised by two kilometers to 424.8 kilometers,” the spokesman said.

The maneuver will be carried out to ensure the best conditions for the landing of Russia’s Soyuz TMA-04M manned spacecraft in Kazakhstan on September 17 and the docking of the Soyuz TMA-06M manned spacecraft with the ISS, scheduled for October 15.
