Was able to take a (somewhat lousy) picture of the ISS tonight with my fellow country man Andre Kuiper on board !
He never waved back though................... !

Lousy attempt, the man says! Well, at least you have a sense of humor.

Well..........compared to my previous pictures I took of the ISS ( and posted on this Forum) this one is actually pretty lousy.....

This one for instance was quitte a bit better.

You do that with an 8" telescope. My classmates did a lot worse with university's 26".

That and the quality of the two images isn't drastically different.

Sounds like your classmates are probably trying to use computerized tracking if it's a 26" ( which at times can make it a lot more complicated).
I always use manual tracking through a 9x50 finderscope while I'm snapping pictures through the 8".

It also depends on what they take the images with; I use a digital still camera; some other people use webcams.

Lots of variables here.
Overall I'm pretty pleased with my results; even snapped the shuttle approaching the ISS once.

The specs of the telescope:
D = 71 cm (roughly 28", sorry wrote 26" incorrectly before)
Primary focus f = 2.031m F/D = 2.9 resolution = 0.914" / piksel
Secundary focus with a two lens corrector f = 5.831m F/D = 8.33 resolution = 0.319" / piksel
Camera Apogee alta 16E, CCD, 4096x4096, pixel size 9um

The telescope is indeed computer guided, but that's not why the image was bad. You have experience in both taking and processing images, they never bothered with it...
