Wow! Can anybody link me to high resolution versions of these pictures? 1.5 MP is a little bit low, and as far as I know, most pictures today are captured with approximately 10 MP cameras.
Especially the first picture really deserves to be the background image of my 1440x2560 px phone.

Just click on the center of the picture. :tiphat:

If you click the top (where it says "Click this bar to view the full image."), you get an 1600x1155 image, but if you click the center, you get the full resolution?
Wow, I never knew that. Is it a bug, or a badly documented feature?

Thanks!

Actually I made this (using a medium-res photo with a link to the high-res version bracketing it) - I used to post directly the high-res photos but this caused some members here waiting for minutes just for them to load so I adopted the photo posting method of other people here. :tiphat:

Not a bug, but 2 different features, which when used together cause something like this. :p

I suggest using some lower resolutions than medium for thumbnails to prevent javascript resizing, which on Flickr you can get by viewing all sizes of the image, like for example there: https://www.flickr.com/photos/nasahqphoto/16604583049/sizes/n

Images are resized by a script when any of their edges is longer than 400 pixels.

For some reason, those images aren't showing on my screen. Do you have alternate links?

They have Landed!

Они приземлились!

Amazingly sexist questions asked of Elena Serova by russian reporters at the after landing news conference:

Also, NASA astronaut Barry Wilmore was unavailable for the news conference as he was not yet sufficiently recovered from his six months in space. Another reason why my opinion is NASA should be investigating methods of achieving fast flight times for Mars missions.

The most awaited ISS expedition in many years is ready for extending human's experience in space operations - 2 of its members staying up for one year, and the other planned to break the all-time astronaut spaceflight mission elapse time. :hello:

More info available when I clears out the 3 launches today....

Soyuz TMA-16M report

The One Year Expedition!

As the ISS became one of the most versatile base camp for human presence in space, it is only natural that this is the place to prepare for human's next steps in space.

One of the most important research topics on hand is the effects of long term stays in zero-G on the human body, and up to now most of these studies were for periods of a few months.

Today marks a leap in this aspect when Scott Kelly and Mikhail Kornienko will plan to stay at the ISS for one year. While such long stays have happened many years ago (notably Valeri Polyakov's 439 days on Mir between January 1994 and March 1995), it has yet to happen during the history of the ISS. And unlike the Russian efforts on Mir, the methodology of studying the physical and psychological effects on long term periods in space has improved a lot. Thus their stay till March 2016 will be a landmark in space biological science.

And as we all know, Scott Kelly will already have an experimental reference on Earth - his twin brother ex-astronaut Mark Kelly! They two will experience comparative genetic studies that will compare their body conditions for the next 5 years to find the effects of staying in space for such a long time.

Don't forget the third crew member in this expedition - extreme veteran cosmonaut Gennady Padalka! Being his 5th expedition to a space station (1 on Mir, 4th on ISS), he will break the record for the most cumulative time spent in space by any human after the 6 month stay, up to about 870 days. (current record is 803 days by the legendary Sergei Krikalyov) And apparently he said he wanted to do a 6th stay to break the 1000 day record! Talk about courage! :hailprobe:

Best wishes for their dispatch!

In about two hours, the hatches should be closing between Soyuz TMA-15M and the ISS, and Terry Virts, Samantha Cristoforetti, and Anton Shkaplerov will be inside, preparing to leave the station. Like the undocking that comes around three hours later, and the deorbit burn that comes around two hours after that, and the landing about an hour after that, the hatch closure can be seen live via NASA TV.

Here's the schedule(times are in EDT):
Thursday, June 11

2:30 a.m. - Farewell and hatch closure coverage (hatch closure scheduled for 2:55 a.m.)
6 a.m. - Undocking coverage (undocking scheduled at 6:20 a.m.)
8:30 a.m. - Deorbit burn and landing coverage (deorbit burn scheduled at 8:51 a.m., with landing at 9:43 a.m.)

TERROR in ORBIT: Dodgy rocket burp biffs International Space Station off track.
'Nauts spring into action after Soyuz podule whoopsie.
9 Jun 2015 at 23:20, Neil McAllister
NASA confirmed that the engines of Soyuz TMA-15M – one of two Soyuz spacecraft currently docked at the ISS – unexpectedly fired at 10:27am Central time on Tuesday, pushing the station somewhat out of its expected position.
The unplanned incident occurred during testing of a radio system that controls the docking procedure, the Associated Press reports.
"Actions were immediately taken to reorient the ISS," NASA said in a statement. "There was no threat to the crew or the station itself, and the issue will have no impact to a nominal return to Earth of the Soyuz TMA-15M on Thursday."
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2015/06/09/iss_engine_misfire_orbit_change/

It seems the Russians testing their docking techniques frequently causes problems.
