Since there is already a thread for all upcoming Progress flights updates, why shouldn't we have also one for Soyuz TMA, instead of many threads for single flights?

First to be featured here is Soyuz TMA-09M, which will be launched May 28 as ISS program flight 35S, carrying Expedition 36 crew to the International Space Station.

Of course this thread will cover only autonomous flights of the Soyuz spacecraft (along with the launch vehicle) since the launch preparations to docking, and then from undocking till landing, leaving the carried expedition updates on the ISS UPDATES thread.

Well I think there's much more interest in any manned spaceflight than "only" a Progress spacecraft or even a Dragon (which I think will receive less attention when SpaceX moves to Something Bigger (TM) :p), and there might be more interests in the crew activities from pre-launch training to ISS docking (you can see that the Soyuz crew usually forms a far tighter group than with the other members of the expedition).

The number of posts on the previous threads may refute my point though. It certainly needs more thought for one mega thread. Any comments from others? :hmm:

I don't see any more interest in a manned Soyuz flight than in an unmanned Dragon flight:
  • Falcon 9 / Dragon CRS SpX-1 - 11048 views - 200 replies for the single flight
  • Falcon 9 / Dragon CRS SpX-2 to SpX-12 - 9771 views - 172 replies for the first flight in series

  • Soyuz FG / Soyuz TMA-05M - 2368 views - 30 replies
  • Soyuz FG / Soyuz TMA-06M - 2445 views - 36 replies
  • Soyuz FG / Soyuz TMA-07M - 866 views - 15 replies
  • Soyuz FG / Soyuz TMA-08M - 1446 views - 17 replies

The updates could be also posted earlier in this thread, like crew arrival to Star City, training, than 2 days before the launch or later, when usually such [Launch] thread appears after Soyuz FG has been rolled out.

Yes, I noticed that already. It seems that most people have little to care about actual manned spaceflight. Put a cool name on anything, a few flashy labels and it gets all the attention... Especially if it is from the US...

That is true, when it got blue letters, a white rocket, doing good PR ans talk a bit like a hipster, then you stuff become much more interesting then a manned launch.

Lucky there is now a official thread with news about the manned Soyuz flights and the preparation of the mission. Thanks Orb (And Galactic Penguin SST for the Progress thread) for this

I am doing a special report on the upcoming Soyuz launch on Tuesday, along with two other launches in early June related to human spaceflight. Stay tuned for this human spaceflight special feature!

Here's my brief report on tomorrow's launch of 3 new ISS crew members! This is the first of a long series of posts featuring the details of the Soyuz spacecraft, the final training and special rituals that the cosmonauts enjoy in the weeks heading towards the launch pad and the process that the spacecraft and rocket gradually build up for the ride up - with lots of surprises here and there!
