Hielor: Did you ever read the "X-Wing" series? They had to deal with a SSD that was hidden in the surface of Coruscant, then blasted out and lifted off and then jumped to hyperspace pronto. They used a repulsorlift "sled" under it to launch and shield it from ground fire. The SSD got away... for a while. Wedge and company captured it later

I read a few of them...don't remember which.

They are known (or at least thought) to come into atmospheres. It's a popular idea, anyway.

Nearly all "Star Destroyers" can be used for atmospheric operations, but only the Accalamator-class Assault ship can *actually* land on the surface carrying alot fo AT-TE's (All-Terrain Tactical Enforcers) and LAAT's.

Alright, I was too Curious and...Oooops! Used UCGO and put one guy at the tip and another at the engines. ~2200m. Ehhh...not bad for eyeballing it I guess.
