you gotta be carefull though. sometimes it rams you strait into the earth (or wherever you are)
Actually, Surface Launch is meant to be used for launching, and will tell you when to launch, and on what heading. Launch when the "Hed" is 90 degrees, or as close to 90 as it will get. "Hed" is the heading you should launch at. Once you are on the heading, just keep the bank and yaw at zero. Your heading will gradually change to a more Easterly direction - that's normal so don't fight it. I myself don't use Surface Launch after I initially get on the launch heading - Surface Launch isn't very useful once airborne. If you get on the proper heading, the EIn will drop as your velocity increases, watching Surface Launch and trying to "correct" it will usually cause you to "overcorrect".
Orbit Eject will plan an optimal ejection time based on the course plotted and your current orbit AT THE TIME ORBIT EJECT IS FIRST OPENED (and set to course). If you alter either your course or your current orbit after first opening Orbit Eject, you will probably need to adjust the TEj.
As to when and how to make MCC's, it varies a bit with the plan. Generally speaking, the sooner you make the corrections the more efficient, however, sometimes making them too soon will actually make things worse. Watch your PeA in Map, if it's getting better you should wait. For interplanetary flights it's usually best to wait until at least 1/3 to 1/2 the way there, and use Target Intercept (set source to "x". and select "realtime"). Planet Approach is best used at two to three times the SOI away from a planet, and Base Approach just after entering the SOI. For a trip to the Moon or back, I just use Map to "manually" adjust my trajectory with RCS almost immediately after the Orbit Eject.
For now, you can get a good idea of how to use Surface Launch, Orbit Eject and Map for "fine tuning" from the Home Direct tutorial by MarkL316 and myself.

Mark, I'm working every day til next thursday, but I'll try to squeeze in a Slingshot checklist as soon as I can (if no-one else beats me to it). Haven't done that in a while, so it'll take me a bit to remember how to find a launch window for that. The "Mini" version of the steps for the actual flight is - Start out with a normal transfer to Jupiter. Once inside Jupiters SOI set Target Intercept's target to Saturn, and set Slingshot to "course". IMFD's manual (the old 4.21 manual is more complete than newer ones) says to perform the burn "sooner the better", but I think it's best to burn near the Jupiter Pe (due to the Oberth effect). I'll try to put together a step-by-step (and instructions for finding a window, that's actually the hard part) by early next week if time allows.
