I am trying to install the level 10 texture packs fro the earth i haveread the Readme included with the download the readme says:

Code:
Maps courtesy Mario Rossi.

Everyone working with project Orbitersim LandSAT is proud to have Mario as part of our development team and we are all looking forward to additional great and fantastic maps being developed with the help of Mario.

Special thanks to Dr. Martin for his effort in consistantly adding new features and improving Orbiter to continue the tradition of the finest space simulator ever made!

Night lights source credits go to Dr. Martin for helping push me in the right direction with this night lights map.

Thanks Cyrus for the suggestions, You can expect to see some of your suggestions in the next version.

Instructions:
NOTE: You DO NOT need to download the EarthL9 file, if you have already downloaded this Level 10 file! The Level 10 combines Level 9 and 10 together.
NOTE: If you intend to use the Level10 Earth and Level10 Mars at the same time, it is recommended you have minimum 1 gig of ram. There is a hit to the load time, but once it loads it will run smoothly, if you have a full gig of ram. Less than that, and you run it at your own risk.

extract the Zip file into your Orbiter folder. Over write any existing files.

Update your Earth.cfg file.
The file can be found here.
\Orbiter\Config\Earth.cfg
Open it with Windows Notepad or your other favorite ASCI editor.

This line:
MaxPatchResolution = 8 ; surface texture resolution limit

Change to:
MaxPatchResolution = 10 ; surface texture resolution limit

Save the file and load Orbiter to enjoy.

Included in this package:
\Doc\EarthL10 Readme.txt (This file)

\Textures\EarthM.bmp (385 KB)
This is the new optional color MFD Earth Map matching the Orbiter color map. (same source)

\Textures2\Earth_tile.tex (233 MB)
This is the Earth texture Level 10

\Textures2\Earth_tile.bin (239 KB)
This is the Night Lights list file

\Textures2\Earth_tile_lmask.tex (233 MB)
This is the Night Lights texture Level 10 file

If i copy the files to my orbiter folder it will overwrite the textures for the spacecraft aswell

Thanks toctiz

There's no need to copy & paste the whole readme file. Giving the full name of the add-on, or pointing to the download link of the add-on would be sufficient.

I assume you downloaded them from this page - Earth L10.zip, right?

If you extract them to Orbiter 2006-P1, you just need to do what's written in the readme file.

If you extract these textures to Orbiter 2010-P1, then to fully enjoy them, you don't need to edit any configuration file, but I'd recommend you also downloading and extracting "Earth L8.zip" from the same page, otherwise you'll have visible seams and color changes between standard/high resolution textures. They will overwrite only already existing Earth textures, and not any spacecraft.

Which spacecraft textures are getting overwritten?

Planetary textures usually overwrite either stock planetary textures shipped with Orbiter or earlier installed textures for the same planet and eventually configuration files for the planet, but not any spacecrafts.
