Gaming Hielor's Minecraft Server

Update on the 1.3 situation: The Bukkit addon Multiverse still doesn't have a stable 1.3 release, and there are numerous comments of people saying that when they try to use the current version with 1.3, anything that people build gets reverted when you leave the area and return.

This is a Bad Thing, and Multiverse is unfortunately pretty critical for the server working the way it does. So, I can't update the server until Multiverse gets updated.

I'm out of town again this weekend, but I'll be back on Monday. After that, I'll check the Multiverse plugin daily, and update the server as soon as it updates.

Hello, I'd like to join the server(when it's working again)=)

My minecraft name is danielcb114(if there's still space)...thanks!

As a separate question, I (think) I see that someone built a space station over the water in the north western corner of the map. Is that station functional or more decorative? I'f the latter, I'd like to construct an additional, functional space station somewhere. It wouldn't be based off of any current or hypothetical stations exactly, but would have a "module" system similar to the ISS.

If I get the go-ahead, here are my planned features:
The walls and roof of the station would be made of smooth stone. The floor would be made of ice blocks. Additionally, the bottom of the station would be covered in wool, so as to look like a cloud. The headspace would be three meters(so the entire height of the station would be five meters, including the wool and the ceiling).

The ceiling would have lava lighting, and there would be piston doors(or perhaps iron doors) for delicate modules.

The initial modules would be:
-A Docking/Airlock Module:This would have a piston controlling a stream of water for someone to swim up. Alternatively, there could be a gravel elevator below; either way, this module will consist of a docking port, entrance, and airlock.

-A habitation module, obviously. This would include one double chest for everyone to share, as well as beds packed as tightly as possible; there would be a bookcase or to for storage of nonessential luxuries.

-A Hydroponics Module-this would include a wheat farm, optimized as much as possible, as well as a communal chest(all chests on the space station would be communal) with bonemeal and seeds. This would allow for extended stays on the station.

-A bathroom module, with a chest of glass bottles, paper and a toilet(with a holding tank below). To "use" the bathroom, one would drop their paper/bottles in the toilet, then activate a piston, which would use water(unrealistic, I know) to flush the waste into the holding tank. There would also be a similar device in this module for hygeine.

-A lab module; this would be fairly large and would have shelves for experiments. There might be additional modules for specialized experiments(such as testing the growth of chickens or mushrooms in space, testing the development of obsidian or a module filled with obsidian for testing explosive properties in space.

-an exercise module; not totally sure about this one, I'll think of something to put in it.

-a media room, with redstone lamps, wool flags

-an engine module, with RCS and LIN thrusters on the outside(preferably an iron block surrounded by levers), as well as a glass lava fuel tank and a chest for storing repair materials(not just to the engine, but the whole station)

This wouldn't compete with the city of course; the living space would be very cramped and the resources that could be generated are very limited. I can build a prototype and post video/pictures if anyone is interested in helping/wants more information. As I'm about to start college, and the nature of this relatively expensive project, naturally this would take some time, but because it is modular, all it needs to get started is a habitation, bathroom and airlock module.

Anyways, thanks for running the server Hielor!

The server is working just fine at this moment (however, you need to have version 1.2.5 of the client to join it). You can even join just now to look around, but without building permission.

Ok, that'd be great!

( Rant warning.)
Take your time. With 1.3 introducing so many singleplayer bugs with its labour-saving server-only updates, I won't be updating any time soon, and I have a feeling at least a few people would agree on this. The lighting is even more borked than it ever has been since the Anvil update; block updates are sporadic, unpredictable and often fail entirely (ghost blocks when mining and invisible blocks when constructing) leading to redstone mechanisms esp. time-sensitive ones becoming unreliable... The list surely extends farther.

Oh yes, I don't think I'll ever be updating my modded .minecraft. They added like 11 block ids and I'm almost full as it is(60+ mods); though I must say I like the item changes to vanilla; it's very easy to call it a game as opposed to before.

Im not sure about the station that you say you see. As far as I know there is a station planned to do in the space museum.

Can I recommend you to think to do it underwater? this way you can feel like living in an artificial habitat

You can always use forge with its own integrated modloader (no need for the other one) and 4096 block IDs support. :P I can't live without forge since I started using it.

After the update, NPC villages which are mostly dead will need to be repopulated. Villagers started to be useful.

Maybe, if its deep enough; and that would give me more room, but I think there's still plenty isolation in MCspace; and the other issue is how to get into the underwater base; if it's a simple tunnel, well, what's the difference between living underground? Either way, thanks for the suggestion:)

I've heard about integrated modloader; I might try it next time I update. I know about 4096, but there were some quirks with 1.2.5(at least initially) and I put off installing it. I might change my mind, as I think I have less than 5 ids left, and I want to install the "rocket science" mod.

The "space station" is actually a city that Eccentrus, myself, and a few others are working on. Work has mostly stopped for the moment since Eccentrus has an unreliable internet connection right now (also I needed a creative break). Whenever he gets back, I'm sure he'll start on it again.

I resupplied the communal chests a bit; It didn't look like some of the chests had been used in a while, anyways, the following chests have been filled with some decent stocks

-tools(filled with stone tools)
-cobblestone
-wood/timber
-food
-the coal chest (charcoal) if I remember right
-the lava commune building is full, I also added safety buffers on the top floor(it's missing some glass on the top floor though)
-I also dumped some stone axes at the tree farm and cultivated the saplings a little(the oaks were getting low)
-also, there's now a sign in the nether(in the 1 block wide hallway next to a portal), leading to a ladder that goes to a lava pool, convenient for filling buckets; the ladder is covered and the bridge has a partial ceiling, but you still need to hold shift for safety.

I also dumped some stuff in the project chests; I'm not sure how old those are, so if the projects are cancelled/completed, just go ahead and take the items/move them to the right chest.

The communal chests still need some sand/glass, more cobble, mined goods(just some redstone, maybe iron to have a good stock) and maybe a couple more logs; so if anyone can spare some items/time, that'd be great; I'm just so enthralled by a player-supported resource pool, Its so cool to, instead of trekking through the nether, or waiting for furnaces for your project or little addon, you just go to the chest; and somebody has your back; and when you finish, you have theirs. Anyway, either way I'll try to keep it stocked whenever I'm on, at least until my space station is up and running=)

I'm working on a prototype for the space station in creative mode; the airlock wiring is going to be a bit of a pain. I plan to fill the station with lava, because you don't drown in lava and it gives psedo-weightlessness(instead of ladders, you'll just be able to fly up; similar to the space shuttle's design(except they used physics instead of lava).

There'll have to be an alchemy module with a stock of blaze powder, nether warts and slimeballs(and redstone); that's not too big a deal. I'll also include a private cargo area near the airlock, in case someone wants to put up their stack of diamond blocks before entering. I already checked, and chests don't burn up in lava(go figure); I'll have to do some research to see what does.

I've decided to build the walls and floor out of stone slabs; I would use iron blocks, but that would be ridiculously expensive; part of the reason I'd like some partners/co-sponsors and/or supporters of this project, because I could build it quicker and better in creative mode/with mods; but it's worth building it on the server if people get enjoyment out of it; the converse of this is also true.

One thing I've not been able to decide at all is the entry mechanism. There's essentially four or five(six if you count ridiculously expensive)

The first is the simplest to implement; a piston holding back a water block. Release the piston to deploy a "tractor beam". Advantages are it can be used to get back down. No disadvantages other than not being as cool as some of the others.

The second is a piston holding a stack of gravel/sand up. Once you get to the station, you would deploy water(possibly tied in to #1) to wash away the redstone and collapse the gravel tower. Disadvantages would be that it's expensive if there's nobody to collect the gravel, and it would take a while to get up to the top.

The third is like the first, but with lava, and permanent. This way people know what they're getting into, and has a higher awesome factor; disadvantages are, it's a tower of ******* lava.

The fourth would be the simple trapdoor teleport trick. Advantages: easiest to implement. Disadvantages:super yawn.

The fifth would be a tnt cannon; Advantages:awesome, the most realistic. Disadvantages are impossibly expensive and requires a space suit made of expensive hyper-pressurized carbon.

The sixth, and the one I'm experimenting with now, is a space port/shuttle (perhaps on sky city, if I get the approval from whoever is the mayor, alternatively, the desert might be a better option since it's closer to a nether portal and there's no immersion breaking rain).

Here's the vehicle I'm thinking about using. It would be made of nether bricks/nether stairs. Advantages are it's pretty awesome, and reasonably affordable, and can carry many people at once. Disadvantages are it's a bit slow, requires you to start from a high point, and I'd have to build several with several docking ports, as well as an astronaut training building with instructions on how to operate in, in addition to snow/dirt/sand and levers as "fuel". Neutral traits:It's like a rowboat but it's a spaceship.

Feedback on entry method is very welcome.

The Sky City (proper name not established yet) is governed by a Tetrarchy which consists of me, Gerdih, Arrowstar, and Woo482, perhaps you should elaborate more about the space which you may take and the shape of the device including a simple description of the facade and the decoration of the device, and how it would fit on the skycity general architecture (which is planned to be neo-classical influenced).

Not sure how a "space station" would fit in with the neo-classical theme of the main city, to be honest...

Yes, that was a concern; the station would be built out of the view of sky city, if it was built there; I was considering building a tall space port, within the theme of sky city, with simply some launchpads at the top(out of view from the streets). Still, issues with that would be that it'd be pretty far for the shuttle to travel. What we really need is for notch to double the height limit again.

On a side note though

This OptiFine Cape looks deadly similar to Orbiter-Forum's logo
