I think that the arival location is going to depend on when you leave another body (like the moon). To me this is what I consider because the flight time is going to be the same (or it should be a decided amount) before making a return flight. When you decide to go on orbit # 230 as apposed to Trans Earth Insertion (TEI) on orbit #231 this will determine where the surface of the earth is when you begin your last cours correction burn.
I think a flight plan by the numbers is your best bet. When I was writing my tutorial for AMSO and IMFD in

Jarmo Nikkanen helped me along with some other Orbinaughts in finding that the "returning to earth" burn time (TEI),or the orbit in which I was returning on was what would determine when I would arrive at earth.
Then its a matter of fixing your delta V to be a 30 - 60 Km PeA. I prefer 32 Km but thats me. Comming in at 25 times the speed of sound shouldnt be too much of a problem for the Apollo AMSO capsule.
I dont know about other capsules, but I have found that this works with the Orion and the default Space Shuttle (de-orbit re-entry not an earth bound re-entry).
If your orbiting the earth and simply want to re-enter then try (assuming your in an Inclination near the equator) going from Near the eastern tip of Austrailia and you will make your PeA in OrbitMFD 40.0Km ( you do this by pressing "DST" on the right side of the MFD and that changes your distances from Radii to Altitude).
You burn retrograde until the PeA reads 40.0Km and then wait. You should begin to enter the atmosphere in about 1700seconds.
When you are re-entering in the Space Shuttle you should set Horizontal Level in the HUD (bottom area) while in glass cockpit mode.
Use Ascent Profile to watch your re-entry altitude. It should be pretty nominal if you dont touch anything. A straight line almost down to the surface with a dip at the end.
Parachute and your landing at the same location. Play around with different Latitudes you might look at in MapMFD (after targetting yourself) and then save the drougne deploy locations as a test saying "de-orbit burn at 100.56* E" and then another you save with the line in comments "de-orbit burn at 101.00* E" or somthing like that. So you can see the different landing locations as opposed to your retro or de-orbit burn location. This has helped me.
Tell us your specific circumstances and well try and help you to get to the Cape. I just finished my testing on how to take off, dock with the ISS, and land at the cape all on the default fuel given to the Orbiter default Space Shuttle Atlantis so Im finding some things out about how to land at the right place. Im still learning though.
