I heard Vista has pretty rubbish FPS compared to XP and i was wondering what sort of FPS XP users actually get? Mine is rarely above 25 even in a stable orbit. Is there any way of boosting this or is that pretty much stock for Orbiter? My system stats are 3.00 GHz Dual core Pentium D, 2GB RAM, Geforce 8500 GT, Soundblaster Advanced HD 5.1, and Vista Home Premium.

I've got a GTX 7900 and see between 60 and 240 FPS depending on what I'm looking at.

Data on why things are worse on Vista:

If you're not using VistaBoost, get it here:

I'm on vista and my FPS hasn't yet dropped below 100. I average about 130. I installed VistaBoost and it made no discernable difference.

I have a radeon 4850, 4gb RAM, and Phenom II quad core processor.

From 25 when in DG docked at ISS to 40 when looking at Earth with high resulution texture and 180 when looking away from earth into space. But comes down to lower than 15 when I'm using external MFD's.

It's strange that I have serious problems with ClearType disabled, having FPS drops to lower than 10 until I enable it.

Acer Aspire E380; Win XP Professional SP3; AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4600+, MMX, 3DNow (2 CPUs); 2048MB RAM; ATI Radeon X1650 Series

For the most part I stay above 55 FPS, unless I am looking at some particle stream.

My machine tends to run Orbiter at a very exact 60 FPS (Win XP), unless very heavily loaded. Since it tops out at exactly 60 FPS, I suspect that it has the capacity to go higher, but is limited by some sort of synchronization issue. But I don't really pay to much attention to frame rates as long as they're not low enough to look jerky, and even 30 FPS is more than enough for that.

I typically get about 20-30 fps depending on what I am looking at, in full screen mode (1280 x 1024). When running in a small window (800 x 600 I often use when debugging) the frame rate can go up over 100.

Specs:
Athlon 64 2800+, Nvidia GeForce FX5200, 512MB RAM, Windows XP SP2

I tend to get at least 50fps on the ground with High-res KSC & Seth Eden's Lvl 10 Earth Textures, and at least 130-150 plus in orbit.

Windows XP Pro SP3 32-bit Edition
AMD Athlon64 X2 4400+ 2.3Ghz dual-core processor
4GB DDR2-667 RAM (XP 32-bit only sees 3.25 GB)
nVidia GeForce 8600GT 256MB DDR3 OC Edition

Turn off V-Sync ;)

V-Sync limits Orbiter to the refresh rate of your screen, 60hz in this case

DirectX 7 is not software emulated in Win7. See the previously linked thread for the correct explanation: http://www.orbiter-forum.com/showthread.php?t=7356

Apologies, I was misinformed. :(
Not a problem, I just didn't want that statement sitting around looking like a fact without being corrected ;)

The entire reason I started that investigation in the first place was because the only information out there was conflicting and inadequate.
