Idea Fictional Airliner Markings

I really like that TCA logo on the tail from Turbulence. Might need to use that for something myself LOL

I'd say that it's a modified version of the JAL airline tail logo (See Below).

I always thought that looked like the logo of the Rebel Alliance from Star Wars!

I notice a lot of these movies used a Lockheed L-1011 Tristar. How much you want to bet that it was the same plane used in multiple movies? I knwo that the L-1011 lasted quite a while in charter service in the US than it did in the mainstream airlines, well into the 90s and maybe even 2000s. And when Hollywood needs to rent a large airplane there are only so many companies that cater to that sort of thing.

Could be, in the case of Magnum Force & Skyjacked they used the same 707, but I think in most cases they use whatever is available, the L1101 in Passenger57 was ex-Eastern, the plane in The Langoliers was ex-TWA and saved from scrapping long enough to do the take-off and landing sequences. The film (mini-series) also makes pioneering use of CGI for a few shots of the aircraft in flight.

According to the (long) thread linked below the 747 in Turbulence is ex-JAL.

A great side on shot from a 'Killer Virus' mini-series.

Pandemic (2005)

(Note: [ame=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_Atlanta_Icelandic]Real company[/ame], not that I would fly with them after seeing their plane associated with people dying with blood coming out of their mouths...!)

A little something from a Made-For-TV hijacking film in the form of a CGI Lockheed L-1011 Tristar. (More pictures from this may follow.)

Final Approach (2007)

And the real Lockheed L-1011 Tristar (Which is in fact the Stargazer aircraft Kev33 modelled.) the makers of Final Approach used for the landing sequences.

what about Soul Plane?

Just had a look at the pics from that one. The hope was for skins for unmodified planes, I think that film went a little too far for this thread.

Just to let everyone know that there are now images of the other side of the 747 (Columbia 409) from Airport'75 available for your viewing pleasure in post 2 of this thread.

And I've added some more screenshots from Final Approach including pictures of the real aircraft (Namely, Orbitals Stargazer) they used for the landing sequences.

I've finally managed to locate a copy of the only 'Airport' movie that decent pictures of the 'star plane' do not exist for, which means I might be able to locate better shots of the modified American Airlines markings used than the one below.

Later:Found out why so few images. The film makers saved a few dollars by only painting one side of the American Airlines plane they used for the close-ups!

However I was able to get some closeups of the owners markings and one good profile shot.

And a couple of pictures of the model they used for the sunken airliner (Which is the only view of the other side of the plane shown.)

Brief update. Just recorded a made-for-tv air disaster film I'm going to transfer to DVD to get some good shots of the modified colour scheme they use.

I've not got around to watching the film I mentioned it the last post, but here is the scan of the cover of a recently located copy of 'Flight Into Danger' by Arthur Hailey & John Castle. Airline is Maple Leaf Airline (Flight 714). In this cover by Foss I'm guessing the following. Firstly, the colour scheme is White/Red (Alternate is Silver/Red) and secondly, that the markings on the vertical stabilizer are also on the upper surfaces of the horizontal stabilizers. Should look good on just about any aircraft mentioned in the OP.

It's so hard to find stills of the craft from Airplane 2 The Sequel, but I found a couple that show the "Pan Universe" markings. This is basically a space shuttle-looking thing with windows on the side:

Now for another scheme where a certain amount of guessing will be needed, but hopefully, the shots I've gathered should allow something to be done.

Airborne (2012)

Supernatural terror is unleashed aboard an airliner belonging to Atlantic Sky Airlines. This was not an easy film to watch. It looks like the plane may have been used as a stand in for Air Force One in another film and the film makers didn't bother with a full repaint job (Eg Airline name is not on the plane or the model they use.)

I've included a shot of the interior to give a clue as to what the lettering may have been and also the markings that should have been on the tailplane (See the first 'A').

While I'm happy to see someone else contributing, I'd be much happier if you'd added this to the version of the Oceanic Airlines markings from Executive Decision in the Original Post of this thread...

Oceanic Airlines has actually been [ame="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oceanic_Airlines"]the name of the fictional airline in numerous films and TV shows[/ame], although Executive Decision was apparently the first.

(Actually, in perusing Wikipedia's list, it looks like Flipper trumps, from 1964.)

Ever wondered why in the second scene of 'Close Encounters Of The Third Kind' one of the airliners belonged to a fictional (*) carrier?

A nice simple 'black and white' scheme on what looks to be a Convair 880. (The draft script mentions a Boeing 727.)

*. There actually is an Air East, it's a two-plane charter carrier based in Pennsylvania, but I'm not sure that the makers of the film knew about it.
