General Question EVA

Can anyone tell me when you do an eva on the iss if your astronault can graple onto the outer shell because i can't do it or if there is a download that will help ?

What is the outer shell? Do you mean the external airlock? What addon are you using?

when i do an eva the astronault cannot grab on to anything im using all the shuttle adons and iis adons.

when comming out of the airlock you can move around but not grapple on to like handrails

I've seen it done before so it should be possible. Maybe I am thinking of DGIV. Anyway, be specific on which Shuttle and ISS addon it is. Without this information I cannot help.

UMMU allows the ability to grapple things. MMU does not - It does have a docking port in the centre of its chest though so you can grapple by docking.

What you want to do isn't possible in Orbiter. But you could make attachment points to the ISS.

TNeo and I discussed an idea to use UCD to add handrails to some modules of the ISS to allow the UMMU to grasp it. TNeo did most of the work on that but I'll admit that I never got around to trying it.

The problem is that meshs in Orbiter aren't interactive. Orbiter doesn't know if this is an handrail or on engine. Only when you define them as grabbling for maybe UMMU.

The ISS is a .dll so you need to modify it. (I think)

EVAs are not so much simulated in Orbiter. I would suggest the DeltaGlider by Dansteph with his UMMU. This is the best way I think to do EVAs in Orbiter.

EDIT: The XR vessels have also an EVA system.

It's possible to a point but requires tweaking a few configs and installing things like UMMU, UMMUAFA, UCD and so on.
