Surprised there's no thread on this already, one of the biggest sporting events of 2008!

Anyway, just been watching Portugal-Turkey. Turkey look shockingly bad, while Portugal seem good. Even if Christiano Ronaldo has (as usual for an important game) gone missing.

Who is your tip to win the competition? I'm going for Germany or Portugal, but think Sweden have a decent chance of doing well.
Italy is getting too old, France aren't that confident and Spain are just annoying.

Portugal dominated the game ,but Turkey missed their chances. especially tuncay at the last moment.

I would go for germany or spain as favourites for this edition.

I think the winner of the killer group C will have the best chances for winning also the tournament.

My personal favorite is Italy... they are not really getting old.

Germany can play a good tournament, but I have doubts the current squad is up to win the tournament... endurance was considered more important than skills this time.

AAAAAH Television signal got cut! PANIC!!!!

EDIT: 2:1 by Klose!

Oh No! The last minute turks strike again.

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAL!

3:2 by Lahm!

FINALE OH-O! FINALE!

I'm glad for Germany, wanted them to win, but they were pretty dire. Turkey's luck finally ran out.

Great game though! Shame about the storms causing power cuts.

Luckily the feed I was watching (German, HZF or ZDF or something) only cut out once. The Danish feed was out for about 40 minutes apparently, the Swedish one never even started up after halftime.
Glad Germany are through.

Thats quite a collection of outages, not surprised they are having an investigation.
Can't afford to lose all that revenue.

N.

The trick was, that the ZDF (Zweites Deutsches Fernsehen/Second German television) tapped the swiss television, because the swiss television had their own fiber connection to the stadium.

That was not completely legal, as contracts with the UEFA meant they had to use the UEFA broadcast, which broke down. But it is not like UEFA fullfilled their part of the contract.

Still, the question for me is: Don't they have emergency power generators in Austria?

UEFA are still investigeting what happened now.

A local Swiss TV station had access to the feed directly from the stadium (not via the international broadcast centre), this was then tapped by the Swiss National TV and subsequently by ZDF. The BBC also took a feed from the Local Swiss station.

So, it's 0:1 for Spain now :( .

But as on Apollo 13: Never loose your hope until it is over...

If they keep on playing so distracted, we can be lucky if it does not become 0:2.

The Spanish are not so good, especially their defense, but Germany makes enough errors for making them score...

Fernando Torres' chip into the net was amazing, especially after his first header went off the woodwork.
