Earth to Mars...help.

I think the anttenae gets transmission from the space station's frequency or something along the lines of that. The radiator, I will make a best guess that it releases heat or radiation rays.

Also, what happened wrong with IMFD?

Radiator

The radiator is designed to dissipate heat build-up so that the crew doesn't bake on longer voyages. The antenna can be locked into any number of objects including planets. I like using it as a cheap direction finding device when I'm on an external view, other than that, I am not aware of any other operational purpose for the antenna.

well after a bit of headache it worked i use IMFD and i started the tutorial after it was set up .... just couldnt get it to work for me but i did the burns and everything ... ill get it eventually thanks again!

Rdenny made a great 20min video tutorial using IMFD 5.0 to fly between Europa and Callisto. I highly recommend it, and there's a thread I posted in this forum a few posts down the list that has a link to it. You can also find a link at Jarmo's site where you get IMFD.

Going from Europa to Callisto is analogous to going from Earth to Mars, in that both orbit a large central mass whose gravity dominates the longest part of the trip. As such, you fly it just like you would Earth-Mars, but it takes way less time to do. OTOH, there's less margin for error due to the funky local gravity, so you can tell immediately when you do something wrong, instead of waiting 1/2 real hour just coasting toward Mars before you see you've hosed it up.

Just keep in mind that the video apparently was made with IMFD 5.0, which seems to work better than 5.1e, the latest version. Fortunately, 5.0 is still available at Jarmo's, so I'd suggest getting it instead of 5.1e. Even Jarmo admits 5.1e's got some problems.

also i wanted to know what the radiator that deploys on the back of the DGIV or DG does? i havent been able to figure it out. and same for the anntenaa(i know spelling is bad atm) hehe

I haven't played much with DGIV, but IIRC, you use the radiators to keep the cabin temperature within survivable limits; otherwise, the crewmen might stew in their own juices. I'm not sure the antenna actually has a necessary function, but it will lock onto a target. This might be necessary to get things like the stock Docking MFD to work, regardless of the Comm/Nav radio settings.

IMFD

IMFD 5.1e is now 5.1m and it works GREAT!! You should be able to convert the tutorial for 5.0 to 5.1m with little change to the tutorial itself.
As far as I am aware, I am one of the only ppl posting tutorials for 5.1m anywhere. Its really not that hard to use the existing tutorials for 5.0 to convert to 5.1m. You will need to have your head about you though because some of the UI is different.

Here some concepts on IMFD

You may now have visual awareness of what you are doing when you do interplanetary travel.
