Flight Question Earth the jupiter

Hi i just completed my first ever flight to jupiter.(big achivement for me) when i made my travel i used transfer mfd. I had to excape earths orbit first then align planes with the sun as refrence. I used up alot of fuel and LOX doing this (did it in the xr2). I was wondering is there a way to go to jupiter from earth orbit. It would save me alot of fuel. Thanks

Congratulations with your first interplanetary flight! I did my first one with Transfer MFD targeting Jupiter too, and I know how much trouble there is with it.

The two most widely used MFD's for interplanetary flight in Orbiter are Interplanetary MFD (IMFD) and TransX (which is included in the basic Orbiter package). IMFD is probably easier to use and learn, but after I learned TransX, I prefer it instead as it's easier for me to plan and more straight forward to use.

For learning those, I used chapter 6 in the "Go Play in Space" for IMFD and for TransX I used Flytandem's tutorials.

Once you get the hang of it IMFD isn't too tough. I'm still learning TransX, but there are good tutorials for it as well.

Jupiter is a pretty easy target, that big gravity well means that all you need to do is aim in the general right direction and you'll get there. Using either IMFD or TransX will get you there with less energy expended (off-plane, which helps).

You may also want to consider using the Shuttle-A, it's got ton of dV to spare.

I have made it to mars before but this is my first flight to a planet other than mars. Is it possable to go directly from earth to othere planets using IMFS or transX?

oh certainly. With IMFD you can do just about anything. Earth to Jupiter, to a moon of Saturn, from a moon of Nepturn to another moon of Neptune.....

IMFD is just about as useful a tool there is for Orbiter. I recommend to anyone that they learn it.

You can use your eject burn from Earth orbit to leave Earths sphere of influence with exactly the excess velocity relative to Earth, that you would need for entering a solar transfer orbit. This velocity excess is called "hyperbolic excess velocity" in space flight, because you leave Earth on a hyperbolic trajectory then.

IMFD has no problems for planning this. You first plot a course from Earth to your target planet, then you switch to eject mode for planning how you are going to leave Earth and leave it exactly at the velocity to enter your trajectory planned in the course stage.

No idea, never had such a problem. How many vessels do you really NEED in your simulation?

With the recent upcoming of many attachments, maybe IMFD needs a tiny update... or you can already change this by configuration.

The D3D9 graphics client and 25 ships shouldn't be a problem for IMFD. I think the limit is 200 vessels in a scenario. I have one scenario with 180 ships and IMFD works just fine, but a scenario with 360 ships, CTDs as soon as I select IMFD.

hmm. no idia why it wont work then. iv got station building blocks 4.0(around 10 of them) arrow Xr2. ucgo cargos (packed) and an azure rover. i dont know whats up with it
