Hey. Does anybody have a GeForce 9600M GT graphics card with 512MB? If so, what is your processor speed/type, RAM? And how well does orbiter run on it?

I have an 8600M GT with 512MB and a C2D T5550. It runs most games well; Orbiter notsomuch.

On Vista, Orbiter is not really graphics-card dependent; anything 5xxx series or above will be equally bad due to Orbiter's CPU issues on Vista (and Win7). These problems will be exacerbated by the typically poor cooling on laptops, which can cause the CPU to be throttled back over time resulting in the framerate dropping to less than 10 fps. There are some ways to work around this; Doug's VistaBoost helps but doesn't solve the problem; the problem is gone if you use the OGLA graphics client for the beta.

Ok, thanks. Next question: does anybody have or is anybody familliar enough with processors to tell me if an Intel Duo Core P8600 2.4 gHz will run orbiter well on vista?

Can't say anything about Vista (I had this PC built with XP pro last year), but I run a Gforce 8500 card with it's own 512 MB graphic processor, Intel quad-core processor/4 GB RAM at 2.8 Ghz and Orbiter runs as smooth as a baby's behind.

From what I gather, you need roughly 2 GB RAM to run Vista smoothly. If you've got more than that, that's gravy. If you've got 4 GB or better, you should be flying (pardon the pun) as I hear the dual-core processors are half decent in and of themselves.
