Gaming Dark Orbit?

What is this?

With my interest in online multiplayer awoken by OMP, looking around I ran into this and another one called Allegiance by MS. But before I venture to try them, I defer to the opinion of those who know more about this kind of thing than I.

Is it safe? Is it going to download all sorts of stuff that will interfere with my browser, like Skype did (for example)? Any other known issues? Please let me know.

Judging that Dark orbit is operated by a German company that has some many complaints from customer groups, I would be pretty careful. Though the complaints are mostly about the "elite gamer" products.

Alliegance is ok

Allegiance is fine - it's now an open community project (http://www.freeallegiance.org/)! The idea of a space based MMO appealed to me too...I've only played it a little - don't do a lot of online gaming and it takes a bit of a change of mindset to get used to having OTHER players running as fleet control and deciding what I should be doing.

My friend used to play this - I made an account, but never got into it. There is very little, if any spaceflight, so it won't interest you on that basis.

Gave this a quick whirl (Allegiance), and it seems harmless enough. Just the training missions, as yet. I will say it is a bit shooty for me these days, but maybe good for eveneings when frustrations must be vented... Sincerely, I prefer ORL on OMP.

I am giving Dark Orbit a wide berth. I am not at all sure about the concept of browser games with no game related files installed on your own PC. Granted, I play the ones in Orbiter's arcade every now and then, but they are a bit simpler than the Dark Orbit scope with multiplayer capability.
