I'll get on that after I finish up the Boeing one.

Just a quick note, any that have something that goes on the underbelly of the plane, I'm putting out on the wings, after all, I think the XR2 looks better with the heat shield down the bottom rather than having it painted.

I've just about done the Boeing skin, I just need to give it a quick look in-game and package it up. :thumbup:

Don't worry, putting what goes on the underbelly onto the wings looks great, so no need to worry about that.

Hmm... let's see. I'd make the thing bright yellow or some other VERY OBVIOUS color (preferably with extra bright blinky warning lights) and a big sign on it that says "Student Driver". Maybe some other little signs on it would say "SLOW" or "CAUTION". It could be a funny skin if done right.
 
Well, I can't really add signs or light, but big obvious letters I can do, I'll give bright yellow text on black a go and see how it looks. :thumbup:

Edit: No more requests until I complete the Friend Ship and Student Driver skins, as I am working on one for myself as well.

Thanks, working from picture of 747's and the like it took a bit of creativity to adjust the theme for the shape of an XR2, but I'm very happy with how it turned out. :thumbup:
 
How long does it take until the upload appears in the Orbit Hangar?
And how do i know that my upload was succesful?

If It's your first upload I believe you need to wait for it to be checked, which could take a while, it shouldn't take more than 24 hours though.

More updates, all I need to do now is add the logo (If anyone could help me find a picture or the font used that would help speed up the process :thumbup:) and the stripes on the vertical stabiliser, not quite sure if "United" will fit along there very well. :P

Looking good!! I think with the stylized UNITED text done up we should be done. Perhaps Friend Ship would go good on the engine pods? And I like the subtle curve you put into the red line.

Perhaps just print United on the tail fin, so as not to clutter the front end. What do you think?

Thanks, and I am going to put the "United" I just need to figure out the right font. :P
A picture would be a lot easier because I doubt the little tail thing on the U is standard for any font.

Well, I think I've pinned down the font as Cambria, but I can't seem to get the little tail on the U right, so it would help greatly if someone could find me an image of the logo that I could put on.
 
The font is Bookman. Bookman Old Style Light Italic, and ITC Light Italic BT, I believe. And it was set around the 1800's, derived from Caslon - an even earlier typeface. The ITC version was updated in the 1970's.

I'm not precisely sure where the flat version of the "swirly-U" thing comes from if it is a sub-part of the ITC version or not, probably is. But the curvy-swirly "U" *IS* part of the Swash Medium derivative. I am researching into it now. See this here - http://www.fonts.com/findfonts/searchresults.htm?kid=bookman+swash and here http://www.fontshop.com/fonts/downloads/itc/itc_bookman_swash_volume/ I bet you could use the sample test page to render the text as needed. If I can find a freeware font I'll post it here for ya'.. Isn't this fascinating!!

The DC-8 (and fictional a380 version) here depict the older Friend Ship livery.

These renditions use the Bookman Old Style Light Italic font. With only the capital "U" seemingly coming from the Swash derivative. The tail seems a little more stretchy than the actual font. So, you may need to make a test, then stretch the swirl out away from the body a bit.

The newer 2nd iteration of the Friend Ship livery is shown here in this DC-10.

Note this doesn't have a swirly stylized "U" or the blue stars. It only uses the Bookman ITC italic light font.

As far as the vertical stripe on the tail/rudder fins. If you eliminate the stars would that make a difference and allow more room for "united" there? Going more along the lines of the newer DC-10 in the above pic..?

I have attached a copy of both fonts. These are freely available from font sites and released by the foundry as such. I couldn't find a free version of the Swash "U" though. So instead of sending you looking for them, they are here and ready to go!

I also found another "font" file. This file seems to assign a complete airline logo to a single key. It may be useful for other skins you make in the future. Remember this is the complete logo, with text and graphic, in black and white.

Thanks Keatah, would you be okay with using the later version without the stars and swirly U?
I don't really want to spend $26 on a font I won't use.
And the Stars don't really fit well anyway, there almost touching towards the top of the XR2.
