Can't get STS Payloads V2.01 to work

I read the install instructions for both fresh install and existing Orbiter install. For the life of me I can't get it to work. Orbiter Diagnostics is giving me a laundry list of problems no matter what I do. I did a fresh install nope won't let me, arrrrrgh.

I must be add-on challenged (not really, can get all my others to work, lol) I just don't get what the author wants. I know the problem is in the config files, just can't figure it out.:blink:

Anyone get this add-on to work "STS Payloads V2.01 with Shuttle Fleet 4.0.1 and KSC Hi-res and LC39 EAFB 2006.3 enhancements? :cheers:

Well, I dove into the canaveral.cfg and so far I have been successful editing it so now I have the textures for the detailed launch pads and correct placement. Just haven't figured out yet why, when I launch the Shuttle, there is sooo little exhaust.

You Shouldn't need to edit any files to get payloads to work.

Did you install the addons in a specific order?

Do you have all the required addons, including those for LC39 EAFB 2006.3?

I installed the STS Payloads as described in the readme file for existing Orbiter installation. Yes I have LC39 EAFB 2006.3. The readme, if I read it correctly, states that you will need to edit certain config files. The instructions are a bit vague. I think the author expects a certain amount of expertise as he states in the readme. I will eventually do another fresh install of Orbiter ( wasn't successful the first time) and try again, however I think there lies an imcompatibility with Shuttle Fleet 4.0.1 and STS Payloads V2.01, just guessing.:sorry:

Shuttle Fleet v.4.0.1 works fine is STSPayloads, I just ran it. My suggestion would be to just use it on a clean install, much simpiler to get working. Also, I know you have LC39 EAFB 2006.3 but there are addons that are separate to get that to work. Also the order of installation is important. If you read the Readme and the manual you'll see that they have different orders. I just started a new Orbiter to triple check that this works, use this order to intall the addons.

No problem,

Killrotation is a fix for a bug in the 2006 patch. The Killrotation autopilot doesn't completely null the rotation, which is only notisable under high time excelleration.
And Joyride is a joystick plugin like Fly By Wire.
But like I said, these aren't nessecary for Payloads to work.

EDIT: Those addons are on the list because I created my own "Base" Package that includes these. That way when I need another Orbiter, I don't have to keep installing the addons I always need.

Well Zerofay32, I tried another fresh install in the order that you described (which is different than the author’s instructions) and it does not work properly, Orbiter Diagnostics comes up with a laundry list of problems. I must be missing something here in the order of installations both yours and the author's. I think that certain amount knowledge is assumed here, and I am not that familiar with Orbiter. I am having fairly good luck on my own version of installation, by editing the config files manually, but it is tedious.
I am not going to give up though, I will try another fresh install and document each move to try and figure this out. For example; I noticed that you did not include Vinka's modules in your list that was probably an assumed install, correct? I am not criticizing you I am just trying to get to the bottom of this. Please list what other installs are assumed. :cheers:

EDIT: I have to apologize, there are some things I forgot. Try following this install order.

Start with a Base install of Orbiter.
01 Install orbitersound3.5
02 LC39-EAFB 2006.3 - Hi-Res
03 Hi-res KSC
04 RunwayMarkers2006
05 launch_pad_lights by Brain Jones
06 ShuttleFleetV4.0.1
07 GPCMFDV4.0.5
08 STS_Payloads_version2.01

After installing the addons enter the Config folder and open Base file and paste this in the textures list.

STSRoof03
STSEdwrun1

Start Orbiter and activate these modules

AttitudeMFD
AutoFCS-STS
GPCMFD
OrbiterSound
PylonMFD

Then start STS-1 in the STS Payloads folder and it should start right up.

Give that a try and see if it works. Good luck.

EDIT2: Also, about the spacecraft module they are included with the addons in the list. Thats why I didn't list it and a requiered addon.

It worked, thanks. In Orbiter Diagnostic there is a list, probably can be ignored, since it works. Can I now install the hi-res planets pack, maybe only the Earth, since this is a Payloads only install?

Great. I'm not sure what causes those missing textures, but I'm also don't know anything about the diagnostic program. Thanks for sticking with payloads, it really is a great addon. If you incounter any problems then just continue posting here.

EDIT: I have to apologize, there are some things I forgot. Try following this install order.

Start with a Base install of Orbiter.
01 Install orbitersound3.5
02 LC39-EAFB 2006.3 - Hi-Res
03 Hi-res KSC
04 RunwayMarkers2006
05 launch_pad_lights by Brain Jones
06 ShuttleFleetV4.0.1
07 GPCMFDV4.0.5
08 STS_Payloads_version2.01

After installing the addons enter the Config folder and open Base file and paste this in the textures list.

STSRoof03
STSEdwrun1

Start Orbiter and activate these modules

AttitudeMFD
AutoFCS-STS
GPCMFD
OrbiterSound
PylonMFD

Then start STS-1 in the STS Payloads folder and it should start right up.

Give that a try and see if it works. Good luck.

EDIT2: Also, about the spacecraft module they are included with the addons in the list. Thats why I didn't list it and a requiered addon.

First let me say thank you Zerofay for posting this! It seems a real shame that it's so hard to install mods to this program and no one has taken the time to write a walkthrough on installing them for the most popular mods.

I've had Orbiter for 3 days now, and I've been trying for all I'm worth to get some FSX eye candy going in this game. It seems that every mod is dependent on some other mod and unfortunately almost no one let's end users know what those dependencies are up front or at all and no one gives you an install order. So when I stumbled on your little walk through here I felt I had hit oil.

Now I've followed your walk through step by step, but I am still having troubles. The game is up and running (Yay first time in 3 days with any mods installed!), but it seems I'm missing a few things.

I can tell you soon as I get this done I'm making a freaking installer package for it so I never have to go through this again!

ok, so I got everything fixed with the diag program, the arms are still missing from the launch tower though. Also when I bring up the pylon MDF, orbiter crashes. seems it's missing a mesh or two. here is the log.

It looks like you are missing a Vessel. Are you sure that you have installed everything.

Also the STS payloads is one of the most complicated addons to install apart from a select few others (eg NASSP, however there is a detailed install guide)

Have you thought about something like the XR series or AMSO that just need to be unzipped?

Nope, I installed everything in the order described. I even tried it with 3 different fresh copies of orbiter just incase, and still the exact same.

No, I haven't thought of many others mostly because I new and haven't found em yet. I am starting a second copy of orbiter for SSU though.

STS Payloads CDTs

I tried your suggestion, but I'm still getting CTDs. I think it might be a compatability problem with Windows Vista 64-bit. Gazza said that you need to install the MSVCRTD.dll in your system folder of Windows XP. I did this, although I run another version of Windows, but I'm still getting CTDs. Does STS Payloads runs on any specific Windows system? Thank you. :compbash:

STS Payloads works on 98se and XP(32bit), i haven't tried it on XP-64 or any other OS. The old forum has detail answers and fixes for installing STS Payloads and why other addons(apart from the shuttles)had to be included. Until STS Payloads is updated i recommend you read the old forum for more information.

sts payloads

This is one of the best and most fun of all the addons I use. It still needs to be cleaned up such as the space lab in sts 9 lays sideways in the payload bay and some of the fights will reach certain points and freeze up. If someone has some Ideas about these please let me know. It would be nice to add on to this with more flights
