Three months. That was the original plan for Opportunity to explore the red planet. It turned out to be fifteen years. But all good things must have an end. After eight months of radio silence, people expect that NASA will declare the end of this mission later today.

NASA will discuss the status of its Mars Exploration Rover (MER) Opportunity in a media briefing at 11 a.m. PST (2 p.m. EST) Wednesday, Feb. 13, from the agency's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California. The briefing will air live on NASA Television, the agency's website and YouTube.

Fixed... if they are really ending it.
Anyway, super-impressive mission, starting with the landing inside a small crater. :hailprobe:

Opportunity is proof that it is possible to design something to significantly outlast it's warranty. I mean, it took essentially an act of God to finally stop her. :lol:Now if only we could get car manufacturers to do something similar... :p

Godspeed, Oppy. You will be missed.:salute: :hailprobe:

Well said !! This has to be one of the greatest achievements of exploration near the Apollo Project. I think Mars is still a little out of Man's reach so send more rovers to explore these new worlds. Might be time to go to Jupiter's moons

Opportunity served long and well, providing us with a presence on Mars which inspired many. Exploring Mars remotely seems much more sensible for now, there is no rush to plant a flag there. Hopefully, we can build launch vehicles powerful enough to send a good size robot directly to Mars, without having to play Planetary Pool.
