Great ball of fire! Incredible footage captures bright green meteor with an orange trail soaring across the sky over Buenos Aires
31 July 2015
A bright green fireball with an orange trail soared through the sky over Argentina last night and the incredibly rare footage was captured on camera.
The occurrence took place over Buenos Aires and was the result of a meteor that entered the earth’s atmosphere at around 9pm local time.
The spectacular sight lasted for around 10 seconds and no injuries or problems were recorded by its presence, reported local daily newspaper La Nacion.
This however is extremely rare. It is not common for meteors to shine as brightly as the one in the footage, but the occurrence of them in the sky is not as rare as widely considered. There may be many every day all over the world but only a few seen and even less, recorded like this.

Using the guide below this is a fireball
One definition describes a bolide as a fireball reaching an apparent magnitude of −14 or brighter, which is more than twice as bright as the full moon.
A superbolide is a bolide which reaches an apparent magnitude of −17 or brighter. A recent example of superbolide is the Chelyabinsk meteor.
