Currently the atmospheric winds implementation is very flawed and doesn't work right. If there's no desire to implement a proper simulation of them, then they along with the checkbox for them in the Launchpad should be removed entirely. What exactly is wrong with the wind implementation?
IIRC from way back, it was a hack, more of trial run thay never worked properly and messed with the flight models in a non realistic way.What exactly is wrong with the wind implementation?
This is similar to another removed feature that Orbiter used have back in the day, which was actual lens glare whenever tje Sun was in the FOV. It was experimental and was eventually removed.

Again, what exactly is the problem with the model? What are your expectations for the atmospheric wind model? Nobody can fix the issue until it is clearly identified.

- It's way too strong in most cases (Causes the NASSP Saturn 5 to fail to achieve a parking orbit due to how much it eats into the DV budget)
- It is not implemented in a way to mirrors real wind forces
