Does anyone on here have (or used to have) a pilots license, or would like/is trying to get one IRL? I'm working on my Private rating (working on getting money for lessons). As soon as I get the cash, I can't wait to fly a Cessna 152. I'm also gonna join the Civil Air Patrol.

What did anyone here learn in? How long have you all been flying?

We have Real-world pilots social group on Orbiter-Forum, which is "For anyone flying anything, ultralights, single engines, gliders, up to commercial airliners and spacecraft.". You can check there.

Learned to fly in a 1938 Aeronca Champion. Got my license and was working on commercial ticket in 172XP before RL got in the way. Haven't been in a light plane since. Was also a cadet in CAP for many years.

I started my primary training in June of 2009, and got the PPL in May 2010 after a bit more than 60 flight hours. I did all of the primary training in 152s, and got checked out in the flight school's 172s afterwards just for the ability to carry two more passengers.

Unfortunately, work has been kicking my butt lately, so I didn't get to fly as much over the summer as I wanted, but I've been trying to get out for at least an hour or so every time we have nice weather on a weekend. I'm also finishing up the instrument rating ground school, and will probably start the flight training for that some time during the winter.

That group is apparently no longer being updated--I've had an outstanding request to join it for several months now.

Learned in the typical Cessna 172's and Piper Cubs.
Got experience with VariEze, Long-Ez, and several Schweizers.

The best experience, is a high-altitude edge-of-space zoom climb. More on that later!

Got my PPL license back in 2000. I've flown the typical C152, C172N, C182, PA28. Unfortunately, I was diagnosed diabetes in 2005 and I lost my medical certificate. :(

PA28 to PA34 to B737 to CL60 and still learning!...

jguillaumes: Sorry to hear that, I've heard a couple of stories like this and it makes me realise how lucky I am to be able to continue doing the job I love

I flew a light plane at the age of 11. It was great:thumbup:
Reminds me of how I flew a homebuilt Piper Cub copy as part of EAA's Young Eagles program when I was about 10. It was pretty awesome.

jguillaumes: :( I know how it feels. I wanted to be a USAF pilot, but I lost my chance of that, or any chance of serving in the US military when I read their really strict policy on asthma. I might not be able to get a medical because of ADHD. However, you don't need a physical to get a sport rating, all you need is a driver's license

:( did you actually lose your medical or did you just let it lapse? If you just let it lapse (ie, never actually got denied for a medical), you can continue to exercise the privileges of a sport pilot, but if you've actually been denied you can't. It's kind of a stupid loophole, but if you know that you're going to be denied a medical if you try for it you can just not go in and maintain sport pilot privs forever...

I'm in Barcelona, so the FAA rules don't apply here. We "enjoy" the JAR rules, which are much less GA-pilot friendly than yours. Specifically, there is no sports-pilot license at this side of the Atlantic.

I *could* get a limited license which would allow me to fly with another pilot (no more solo flights), but after I loose my medical, I got married and now I don't have neither the time nor the money to re-certify me.

From time to time, I make a short flight with a CFI, but it is not the same as flying solo...

Of course, if you get rich, you could always get one of these XD http://www.redbirdflightsimulations.com/
I got to try one out at EAA airventure for free, it was really fun. I actually got motion sick in it, which doesn't happen to me IRL.
