After months of work, the new DLL based version of the Antares Manned Rocket ( [ame="http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=4682"]Antares Manned Spacecraft 1.1[/ame], the old version) is at its final development steps.http://www.orbiter-forum.com/picture.php?albumid=439&pictureid=3557 This is one of the most complex and complete add on ever made for Orbiter, surely one for the books for 2011.
This is a totally a rhttp://www.orbiter-forum.com/picture.php?albumid=439&pictureid=3562 ealistic vessel, based on current space technology (even if it doesn't exist in real world) and it's avaiable in 3 version:

Antares SR for Low Earth Orbit Missions (ISS)
Antares LR for Beyond Earth Orbit missions (Moon and Mars)
Antares RV for Rescue versio n
http://www.orbiter-forum.com/picture.php?albumid=439&pictureid=3557
It's an Apollo and Orion style vessel, with a Service module for space travel and a service module/capsule for Earth reentry.

The launcher is supposed to be the Jarvis HLV, another totally realistic rocket which is already avaiable on Orbit hangar ( [ame="http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=4527"]Jarvis Heavy Launch Vehicle 1.6[/ame]). It will be upgraded to a new version before Antares 2.0 relase.

The greatest issue for this new Antares version will be a total dynamic and working virtual cockpit, with a lot of funcionts and some cool features (like the GET and date display, a reentry angle calculator and het shield temperature indicators)

Here are some images:

Time display and indicators..

working alarm panel..

Full VC wiev..

capsule disintegration caused by high reentry temperature..

reentry interface..

Looking great, I can't wait. You guys at Orbiter Forum Italia make some of the (arguably) best add-ons for Orbiter.

Very nice! I'm really looking forward to this. Using the earlier Antares, I managed my first every manual rendez-vous and docking with the ISS and I have been a big fan ever since.

Looking forward to it guys! I never tried the first one, but I will give this one a shot for sure! Quick question, though. Will this have a full 2d panel, or is it a VC only?

Will there be a booster stage for LR version? It's quite obvious 2406 m/s isn't enough to reach the Moon. I've used Kulch's Smerch for that purpose already, just want to know if there will be original booster.
And what about moon-landing and launching capability? Or will it be for lunar fly-bys only?

The Antares LR is designed to perform orbital changes and midcourse corrections, so yes, it needs a special 3 stages Jarvis Rocket to reach the Moon, wich is called Jarvis M:

And this is the HES5 stage for TLI:

this looks like it could be the NASSP of modern day! will it be easy to fly? (in terms of learning curve, i cant get my head around NASSP)

cant wait to get that bad boy to the moon! is there a module for planetary landing? (like the LEM of the Apollo craft) and if so, will your average orbiter user be able to pilot it to the moon

thanks

Antares Long Range is an explorative vessel as Apollo CSM and Orion spacecraft, but isn't a lander. A lunar lander will be developed (hopefully) in the future, along with a complete lunar exploration scenario with the support of the Quasar super heavy launcher, in a purpose similar to the (now deleted) Ares V.

Quasar rocket is here:

so in the first release, the SR will be for journeys to LEO and stations in LEO, the LR will be for journeys to Lunar stations and beyond, and in a future update, when a lander is released, THEN we can land on the moon.

nice work, i cant wait to get going! but you still havent answered, how easy is it to fly, on a scale of 1=NOOB>>>NASSP=10

thanks

There is no moon lander at the moment.. at current state, the Antares LR can only perform an Apollo 8 mission profile.. we are discussing about possible lunar landers, but they are only ideas.. nothing is planned at the moment..
This project was originally born to complete the SSI Gaia project..

It's easier than NASSP, don't warry! :)But there are some specific issues that need to be learned! Nothing impossible if you know the base of real space flight!

thats good news.

i would offer help, but i tend to model in sketchup, and theres a problem with my exporting that tends to scale the models irrationally, and i dont know how to fix the problem. on top of that, i cant code or texture at all.

cant wait to get flying in this thing!

sorry to ask, but looking at the screenies on the first post i was wondering if thats the highest resolution of panel textures available on the 2.0. i can understand having low quality versions for less powerful PCs (i used to use a pretty slow laptop), but i now hove quite a powerful PC, which would be able to run a more detailed VC.

thanks
