Its on tonight in the UK channel E4, at 22:00. I'll watch it, its not often on here. Ridley Scott. A scary, good movie, thoughtfull, you don't always win.

This "series" of movies, especially 1 & 2, is generally the only movies that give me nightmares on a semi-regular basis.

The last good movie about "aliens" that really scared me was "Visitors of the Night" with Candace Bergen and Markie Post. I'd love to see that one again

I'm not a big fan of the Alien movies, I'm more of a predator girl. Besides - why the hell did they choose Sigourney Weaver? She's not that attractive, she has an annoying voice - not the best leading lady material.

Well, I like her a lot. Besides, at the time she was an unknown while the rest of the cast were mostly veterans. Skerritt, Kotto, Cartwright, Stanton, Hurt, Holm already had some career under their belts. That the unknown female ended up the sole survivor along with the cat was one of the novelties. The first time you saw the movie - without knowing anything about it - you didn't expect Dallas to bit the big one.

Anyway, who could replace her? Kate Beckinsale was still learning sums, Amanda Seyfried was still a glimmer in her mother's eye and Jayne Mansfield was dead. Casting Jamie Lee Curtis fresh out of Halloween would have bordered cruelty on the poor thing.

While I agree that she isn't a sex bomb (which wouldn't have suited the role at all) I can't really see (hear) what's wrong with her voice...?

It's the weird huskiness you hear every now and then that bugs me. I wasn't expecting a sex bomb, but someone who was at least slightly pretty!

Anywho my main problem with it was the whole acid spit thing....the aliens had teeth - surely the acid would have melted them?

That's solely depends on chemical composition of acid & teeth - normal strong acids easily melt through metal but you can store them in glass bottles for long periods of time.

Their blood is acid, not their spit (though I imagine having bleeding gums would be an issue, or biting the inside of the cheek or whatever). Of course, their body is not affected by it, unlike pretty much anything else.

Any creature that had acid for blood would necessarily be made of material that could resist it, otherwise it's whole body would melt
