Sounds like he may have installed the whole package into the scenarios folder

This is what I do. Hopefully it'll help.

Make a special folder in your "My Documents" folder and label something like "Incoming Downloads" and perhaps change its icon to something very identifiable like the big green arrow windows provides.

From now on after you have downloaded the addon, right click and extract the zipped file to your new "Incoming Downloads" folder. This way you know right off the bat where everything is and you can now go there and see the actual folders within the addon. This will help you also to get a better understanding of how Orbiter's files are structured.

From here, just highlight everything and select the "move to" option and send everything to your orbiter install. For example this is where my Orbiter install is C:programFiles/Orbiter. The addon should already be in the correct file structure so all you must do to install an addon is to do as mentioned above and move all of the addon files to your Orbiter root directory. Don't place them any further than(using my Orbiter install as an example) C:programFiles/Orbiter The addon files will automatically end up in the right place.

If the addon readme is not readily visible after you have unzipped it, it should be in a folder called either "Doc" or "add-on docs". In there you should find the addon's details and installation instructions. (Some addons have extra installation steps to be fully functional for example scenery addons)

Please ignore the stupid smily faces. I'm trying to help you but the text and symbols I tried to type happen to be shortcuts for imbedding smileys. Sorry about that I don't know how to change it. I hope you get the idea.

Which addon is it felipebatista that you are trying to install into your Orbiter? Please provide a link to it so that we can read the readme as there maybe some instruction in there that you are missing.

I'd rather not do the email as this is the better way and place right now to get assistance like garyw said.

First, make sure that any add-on you install is for the current version of orbiter. Add-ons, especially bases and solar systems, from previous versions will NOT work in the current version without extensive modification.

Second, make sure you install any dependancies first. Check the manual or Readme for the add-on for any special installation requirements. Many add-ons require that other add-ons be installed first.

Third, extract the add-on to the proper directory. Nearly all add-ons are designed to be installed to the Orbiter ROOT directory. That is the folder where the Orbiter executable is. Not the scenario folder, or the modules folder, or whatever. Make sure that your unzip utility will use the directory structure the add-on is packed with. On WinZip, that means have the "use folder names" option checked. In 7-zip, its "Current Pathnames". In other utilities I've seen it called "keep directory structure intact" or "use relative paths". If you do this, 99% of add-ons will automatically put all files in the exact sub-folder they belong in.

No, most add-ons do NOT contain a .exe file. What I said was that the Orbiter Root directory was the one containing the Orbiter.exe file. Where exactly that is depends on where you unzipped the original Orbiter package. For instance, you my have it as C:Windows\Programs\Orbiter. Most ad-ons contain a variety of files that need to be placed into the correct subfolder. For instance, .dll files usually go in the Modules folder, .cfg files go somewhere in the Config folder, etc. 99% of all addons are packaged so that files will automatically be put where they belong if you unzip the file to the Orbiter root directory with the "Use Folder Names" (that will vary if you aren't using winzip) option checked.

The project Gemini add-on is packaged this way, so simply unzipping it to the root folder should work.

Thar error above means that there are files missing. Specifically configuration files for the addon.

You don't appear to have installed the add-on correctly. Did you unzip it to the Orbiter root directory, and have the "use folder names" option enabled?

somebody there can take to me a link for i download an executable addon?

If by "exececutable add-on" you mean a regular installer (a program with a .exe ending that installs the add-on) then no - none exists. Only two developers that I am aware of make installers like that - Dan (Orbitsound, DGIV) and Kulch (TX Lifter, Energia, etc)

Check and see if there are any .dll files in the root directory.

so, i think it has solved the problem whit the addons.
i dont get to install the addons on my orbiter, but you can install the adonns on your orbiter.
what i was thinking is: you install the addons, zip the orbiter(whit the addons)
annex it on your email and send to me, i make the download of it and i can play the game whit the addons.
what do you think about it?
i tried to install the addons, but they dont work.

But then what happens what you want to install another addon?

If you can unzip and get orbiter running you should be able to get the addons working as the process for almost all addons is IDENTICAL. You even unzip into the same directory.

I think I'm going to write a tutorial about how to install addons. I know, it's an easy thing for experienced computer user to install addons, but I think it would help many people.

And felipebatista, I know that English isn't the main language in Brazil, so it's normal that your English is not perfect, but maybe you could use the "Check Spelling" button, it's the left button of the three buttons you see in the upper right corner of this picture:

multi_quote4.jpg

Sorry if this sounds unfriendly, it's not intended to be unfriendly, it's just a suggestion on how you can help the others to answer your question better.

A few things that may need to be checked:

Sometimes developers will put together a zip file without the proper folder structure. This can be a major pain, because then you can't simply unpack and run.

Also, depending on what program you're using to unzip there may or may not be an option to preserve folder structure. If this option is there and you have it turned off, it will dump everything in the directory you unzip to, without putting anything in subfolders. This may also cause problems.

http://www.orbithangar.com/search_quick.php?text=mercury&submit.x=20&submit.y=9 this is the link for download the mercury 5.0
[ame="http://www.orbithangar.com/searchid.php?ID=1450"]Project Gemini 4.5[/ame] this is the link for download the gemini project
correct me if i am wrong: 1º- i extract the addon whit right click and select the opion exctract files. 2º- i open the orbiter file and the addon file, move the config(addon)file for the config(orbiter), move he meshes(addon) for the meshes(orbier), scenario(addon) for the scenario(orbiter)...
i wanto to know if this is the way to install a addon.
