Orbiter 2024 Release

I did mention before the release that those scenarios shouldn't be in the release, as it did not contain the Antelope addon...

Anyway, you need to go to http://orbit.medphys.ucl.ac.uk/mirrors/orbiter_radio/tex_mirror.html scroll down to Earth and download the antelope_scn.zip file, and unzip* it into your Orbiter instalation. That page also has high-res texture and elevation for several Solar System bodies.

*) I think you need to have 7zip for this file, which is free to use.

Oh yes!
in fact in Orbiter 2024, there are the scenarios of the Antelope addon!!
but there are no HR textures.
So yes you have to download the Antelope scenery packs Addon.

But I have a problem: Impossible to unzip the Addon, I have this error message:

I downloaded several times, for two days but nothing to do; if you have an idea?

I knew there was something I was forgetting to do... sorry! 😅

Anybody have a .flt file for Antelope?

Well it doesn't like the Saitek X52 but it will recognize the old Saitek Cyborg... Back to the Future... As long as something works... ^^^

Hello! It's possible to make an Orbiter 2024 for consoles?
Currently the only officially supported platform is Windows. Linux is being worked on, but will take a while to get there. I don't think anybody's planning on supporting consoles. They're not a good fit, what with Orbiter pretty much requiring a keyboard. I don't think the audience there is large enough to justify the effort that would be required. (also, there is no such thing as "for consoles". Every system needs its own support).

We could maybe get Orbiter into Steam and Steamdeck, but that would already be a complete new distribution and distribution channel for Orbiter, which would require its own team to handle. Not sure if the Orbiter community is really large enough to handle it.

Tbh, improved controller support would go some way in making it accessible on these portable systems.

Yes, I don't think the technical issues are big or at least unsolvable. When push comes to shove, its always possible to maintain a limited distribution of forked open-source add-ons for a special platform. The problem is rather finding the manpower for every solution. Windows x86 Desktop is the easiest, we already have it, Linux x64 seems to have reached a critical mass of supporters. Everything else... I don't even see somebody who believes strong enough into into a special platform to start building up a community with hard work and dedication.

To all those who asked, I just released official XR Vessels 2.0 builds for Orbiter 2024. You can find them on the forum in the add-on repository, or follow links to there from my Web site. If you want the 64-bit builds, you can download those directly from the XR Vessels GitHub Releases page. Happy Orbiting! :)

EDIT: I plan to support both the Orbiter 2016 and Orbiter 2024 XR vessel versions going forward, so the Orbiter 2016 versions aren't going away, don't worry. :)

Sorry for being off-topic, but
are there any plans for the XR3?

Nothing in the foreseeable future, although it's in the repository in its pre-alpha state. Day job takes all my coding energy, lol.

Hello,
First of all, many thanks to everyone who helped develop Orbiter 2024.
For my simple XR2 simulator, I have a setting with 2 Thrustmaster joysticks and the Saitek Throttle Quatrant. Before starting, I connect the two joysticks to the additional program from Thrustmaster. In the registration they are then listed as Thrustmaster Compined. Unfortunately not in 2024.
Does anyone have an idea?

Many thanks, best regards
Norbert

Similar problem here, I have a Thrustmaster HOTAS that I can't get to work with Orbiter. There's a software that can virtualize all controllers into one, pretty much as shown above. But the virtual controller isn't even recognized by Orbiter (works perfectly with other sims). If I had to bet, I'd say it might have something to do with DirectX ?
